Train sim
« on: September 22, 2008, 20:25:02 »

I'm curious about trying a train simulator and i know there are a few die-hard train sim fanatics over here.
Which train sim should i get, msts or trainz? Any pro's or con's about these 2 train sims, or are there any other that are better? Im a total n00b  ;)

Thanks in advance  ;D

I don't know what does it, but...

Ever computer I've tried installing Trainz 2006 on works fine for any varying length of time and then the game dies in a strange way never to work again. :-[

Hi,

I personnally own MSTS. This one has been released since a while.... It's out of date now, to my mind. You can't even set higher resolution, or wide screen resolution, which makes it look really ugly with a 22" widescreen TFT, working at 1680x1050 ...

I think, if your hardware is recent, that you should wait for MSTS 2, before making a choice !

There's been some discussion here:

and some other places if you search for it.

trainz 2006 has the tgv built in and has many downloads too. i recomend that as you can control many trains amd easily buid a route.

Ya, and who knows how long they're going to keep us waiting for MSTS 2.  Although they have been keeping us happy with the renders. ;D

too bad its gonna be 9 years since MSTS was released. too long for me. i own trainz and MSTS and am positive that if we could combine those two that would be the ultimate train simulation ever.

If you've seen what I've seen it looks like that's what Microsoft is shooting for. :-\

Train Sim X a.k.a MSTS 2 is the ultimate game to microsoft. they are using it like FSX. it will be very detailed, best quality, and more better trains. which basicaly means more memory needed and lots if money.

I just hope that this much detail doesn't mean fewer user add-ons. :-\

I have to thank you guys for introducing me to MSTS, I've really been enjoying it. I've been spending more time on it than ShipSim because I'm new to it and because it works better on my computer not because I like it any more than ShipSim. I've even hired on to a virtual railroad, www.vnerr.com which is making it even more interesting. Now between MSTS, ShipSim, and MSFSX I've got trains and boats and planes to enjoy.

MSTS is an excellent simulator.

If you download the MSTS-bin updates, many of th eproblems with Train Simulator have been fixed, with many new improvements as well.

Play enough of the add-ons and you'll be using some that I have written.
