Freaked Out
« on: September 20, 2008, 00:48:44 »

Sorry to some of my friends this afternoon on MSN and such.

For those who don't know. I got home around 1PM and found my youngest puppy foaming at the mouth and barely breathing. We took him to the Emergency Vet 20 minutes away. He is staying the night in critical condition. He got some slug bait off the shelf and ate it. It is fatal in most cases because there temperature rises, his has not. So he is on a stomach pump the rest of the night.

I had to make a hard decision though. Since he was a puppy I decided to bring home (first dog for me to bring home, I have picked allot of cats but no dogs before) I had to decide if it was worth $2,000 to keep him alive. He is cute, and a pain at times but I couldn't see an animal in my hands die because he made a dumb mistake. So there is $2,000 out of our pocket and a hopefully still alive dog in the next few days.

Hopefully they can keep him alive. If they can this will only be the second dog this year they have been able to keep alive from eating slug bate. But the hopes are up, he doesn't have all the bad things against him.

Anyway it was pretty scary for me. I have never seen an animal in so much pain.

I have had cats die before (Ran Over By Car/Bird) but I was so young I don't remember. This was just scary.

Anyway, cross your fingers.

Just got news. Still in critical condition but improving. He is still having small seizure like tremors but they are small. But the toxin is still in his system. We may be able to bring him home tomorrow morning.

We called the vet last night. He woke up and is doing ok. The toxin is still in him somewhere. They gave him some more muscle relaxants to stop the seizure like tremors. They called 2 hours ago and left a voicemail message saying they had updates and to call back. I am going to wait until my dad gets home from football practice. Woke up and my dang cat had pushed me onto one corner of my bed. Almost fell off. -.-

Edit: Spending another night there. Having trouble standing and seeing. May be brain damage from the toxin and it might correct itself in a couple days.

I feel your pain. Pets become family members. And it hurts when they suffer. I hope he'll be okay soon.

Can someone say my dog acts just like he did friday morning before he ate a pound of slug bait?

First thing out of the truck he checks his food dish!

I'm trying to get some pics up.

He did break a record for the state. Most slug bait eaten and survived. :p
