(...) anything new?

Yes, I heard that "Elbe" shall be released within this week.
The beta testers recently reported some final suggestions for improvements and corrections to VSTEP so at the moment the ELBE gets it's last polish and this causes the small delay.

I think the last Information given behind hand by Bottman, tells this week would be the Release...

So, I´m pretty sure... it will come till Sunday  :-\.

That really sucks!
But for the goodness, they´re polishing some bugs found in the last Betaround.
In Future I wish their would be a clearly named Date for next Release, or just say its done when its done.

But this way is more than just disapointing in my view.
Cause I guess I´m not the only one, clicking every Day on Shipyard for nothing...
Don´t get me wrong.
We do not have a contract with VSTEP for releasing stuff, I know.
But when Shipyard was introduced, I thought; "Yes! It´s getting started!"

Now.. hm... what can I say...

Greats,

One year ago, when the first version of Ship Sim 2008 was released at the announced date, people complained that there were still bugs in the game, and that they had to patch the game a few days or weeks after the release. Just look in the forum for some posts from august 2007.

Now, VSTEP "delays" (I use the "delays" terms, althoug no exact date had been published as far as I know) the release of the addon in order to be sure to clean all bugs, people complain again.

Come on, grow up. The add on will be there ... when it will be there. It's an addon for a video game... Just try to find something else to do while waiting it !

Ehm..  I have a real life too, and I think this has nothing to do with someones grade of Age or something else.
I´m not blaming here stupidly, am I?

But I think you´re totally right. Things need their time.
This is why I would prefer the "it´s done when it´s done"-way.

In Case of ELBE (or FURIE), it seems like their was enough time for polishing and bettering it.
I mean it was pre-released in about in Netherland with half of Quality like I heard and so on....
I´m just scared how this would end with the "new" projects for ShipYard?

The words "it´s just a videogame" don´t count in here. Cause it´s a business like others too.
Customers hate waiting, equally in what business.
The trend to relativate problems with PC-Games, just with the fact it is a PC-Game I think doesn´t work generelly.
(But thats not my problem with VSTEP  ;D, just a little wink)

At the End, I will wait till it´s released, no question. And no doubt I will have fun with it.
Just thought someone should say, what perhaps much more are thinking.
I got some other LoveHate-Gameships like Armed-Assault where I have to be more patient than here.

So.. let´s all have a good time in the sun.

Bis dann..

Hi Straubinger,

please excuse me if my post was a bit rude. Since a few days , and my last cigarette, I tend to run ouf of patience easily ;) :-[ :-\ :'(

But whatever the way things are release, lots of people complain, instead of being happy about the new release ! I can understand you can't wait though, and the Elbe is really a very great ship. I'm sure you'll agree about that in a few days, and we'll forget this ;)

I'm very thankful for every information which helps me to get an impression how long it nearly takes to launch the "Elbe" in shipyard. So I would always prefer to accept a delay over a policy like "it will be there when it will be there".

In my opinion there is a risk in publishing insufficient information.
More and more shipsim fans could become bored and finally decide to leave the community.

Pls. bear in mind that there is an alternative to a release date:
VSTEP could regularly inform the community about the progress in a short note (maybe just one sentence!).
It must not be a decision between "publishing a release date" and "not publishing a release date".
I guess every information would be appreciated by the community.

Just my two cents.

Your point is valid Denis, with or without your smoke ;D :D

But, I think whats annoying me and the rest of us is that V-step are making false promises, I would rather them give a long release date, and sit it out, knowing that it will come either on that date or earlier. Or, if they give no release date at all, and just tell us the stages of development, to keep us interested, like posting a topic in the development corner about the Elbe's progress.

Either way, it will be here soon anyway!

Much of the work on Elbe is being done by volunteer members of this forum, and is not directly under VSTEP’s control so far as predicting when it might be completed.
Geting reasonable ship operating characteristics for Elbe is a difficult task because she is sure to be used in missions in a way for which she was not intended. As an ocean towing vessel, she is not as agile as modern tugs are expected to be when used for ship assist.
She has an unusual amount of detail in her interior spaces—laundry, heads, and bunks. That should be a clue as to the principal centers of activity during her long sea jobs.
I would expect many complaints, and considerable disappointment, when she does arrive in the shipyard—both over her handling and her restricted visibility from the helm. She is, after all, a museum piece.

Is everyone having a problem with the serial keys? I was just about to go and buy it, but I'll hold off if it's a big problem.
