a few questions regarding modelling
« on: September 13, 2007, 10:18:20 »

I have made a few objects and is working on some more, which I believe could be used in Shipsim. For this I have a few questions...

Fileformats

I don't have 3D Max, so i need to export the files to another format. I use ultimate unwrap for the exporting, which have a few options, I would prefer Lightwave, but can also export in 3Dstudio (.3ds) if needed ?
Here is a list of what formats I can export in : http://www.unwrap3d.com/formats.aspx

Textures as BMPs I suppose

3D model
Is any sort of hiearachy allowed and is there any restrictions on how it should be made?
Are there any tags availible for animation, I can see controls and propeller/ rudder is animated, should these parts be named in a certain way and placed in a hiarachy?
Should these parts be animated with key frames or ?

Is it he same model used for player ship as for AI/Static ?

Is ther any kind of LOD implemented and if, how should it be handled, modelwise?

General
I can see all models currrently in game is curretly ships in mint condition, must the model, eg a ship, always be in perfect condition or are we alloved some freedom to make the vessel/objects look somewhat used?

Who shall models be sent to for evaluation?

I'll probbably have more questions later, this just a start  ;D

I know this topic is kind of "Old" but some of these questions can be aswered now that we have a better idea.

As you can see from the Push Boat the hull is in good condition with some scratches and water amrks but not in terrible condition.

V-STEP seems to like 3D studio Binary files for most of there ship models atleast.

And last we would love to see some of these models if you could post them. ;)

Sorry to bump this topic,
