I asked what Titanic's whistle would sound like if it were new on the TRMA (Titanic Research & Modelling Association if you don't already know) forum:

And as it turns out, the Normandie's whistle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqPxhZhM0Po (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqPxhZhM0Po)) was "...of the same size and make (Smith Hyson) as those fitted to the Olympic-class ships..." according to Scott Andrews, a TRMA trustee, and one of the men who did the research support for the Ship Simulator 2008 Titanic. There is a difference in sound quality due mostly to the difference in technology of the recording devices, but you will note that the pitch and chord produced is the same. Hopefully, some day someone will make a high-quality digital recording of either that Normandie whistle set, or one of the three working replicas produced by Kahlenburg for RMSTI. Kahlenburg, you may remember, was the firm which inspected and conserved the actual Titanic set, from which they obtained the dimensions for the replica sets. There's also an identical set -- also operational -- in Cornwall, England, from the Mauretania which could be recorded.
That means places exist where Titanic's whistles' sound can be replicated! No one knows of a high quality recording of them at this point, so I asked what the next best thing was until then.
Maybe TerryRussell and/or Mad_Fred can see if they can visit one of those locations to try to give Titanic a better whistle
