Ship Simulator 2008: Edit Ships Specs
« on: June 30, 2008, 20:48:58 »

Is there anyway to edit any ships speed configuration details? I would also like to know how to set waves higher than 4.00m BUT more further apart.

Thanks For Your Time

no you cannot change the game and if you try you are braking the rules you signed when you installed the game

Hiya Chris,

You may find this post no help at all so you can stop here if you want.

As far as i know there are ways of changing speed configurations and wave settings as i saw a video on Youtube with the highest waves and the fastest P6 patrol boat ever. Though i think they were in SS06 and if they were in SS08, they may have been prevented with new updates. Also i think that it is against the rules to tamper with stuff like that so i wouldn't reccoemend it.

Kind Regards

Thanks for your reply, and Paul, i wasn't asking to change the game, i was just seeing if it was possible to change the ships speed settings.

Ok fellas, let's stop now.

I think he understands that tampering is not allowed, i think his question was a general curiosity question. ;) :)

Let's leave it at that. hehe

Hi Chris,
Ships dynamics—speed, ROT, etc.—are in a file that cannot be altered by a text editor. The developers have an editor, but its use is quite complicated and requires an understanding of physics. They have wisely resisted all demands to release it to general users because of the chaos that would ensue.
Likewise, increasing wave height in the present sea model would break the dynamics and cause bizarre ship behavior.
Ship Simulator 2009 is under development and will have an entirely new sea model.

Marty

This is from the VSTEP Newsletter of 4/3/08:
News on Ship Simulator 2009

Although we are still working hard improving Ship Simulator 2008, at the same time a new development team has started on Ship Simulator 2009. Some of the new features:
•   A completely new ocean, based on real-world wave spectra
•   Tornados / water spouts
•   The harbour of Sydney
•   Part of Antarctica
•   New navigational instruments like a radar and a conning screen
•   Many brand new vessels.
We plan to bring out Ship Simulator 2009 in the first quarter 2009.

Although there are ways to alter the speed of ships, it should be obvious to any thoughtful person that many things—missions, fastest times, rankings, multi-play—depend upon all players’ ships of a type having the same dynamics. If players were able to alter their own ships at will, it would cause chaos and render times and rankings even less meaningful than they are now.

No not that i know of, i haven't heard much about ship sim 09 and they haven't really told us whats going to be in there, so i get the impression that ship sim 09 is either in the very early stages of development or its just to be kept secret until the game is near completion.

Wow, that is just awesome, I can hardly wait, Titanic or Latitude caught in a water spout, that would be a rough ride, especially with "real-world wave spectra"! :o  :o
OMG ... I want it now! :D ;D
You know how to tease Marty! :P

Again, nothing has been mentioned as regards to environment, ships etc. i think it will be kept quiet until they have a fair idea of what the game is going to be like, or when it is near completion.
