That one marked cosmote, wouldnt be the ex P O Portsmouth or Le Havre would it? Looks similar (not sure about the back).

Yes, but it's realy a challenge to berth the PRIDE there! She is somewhat larger than the above mentioned ferries. Well, I know, Marseille was never visited by the P&O ferry, but it looks great! And with a little bit of imagination, she has made a call there on her delivery voyage from her Italian shipbuilder...

Hi Stu,

not it's not! The EL VENIZELOS is a sister vessel of Stena Lines STENA GERMANICA rsp. STENA SCANDINAVICA, both enroute between Kiel (Germany) and Göteborg (Sweden). Stena Line has ordered a series of four ships in Poland in the 80ties, but the yard suffered a lot of problems. So Stena took over just two vessels with much delay and the third casco/hull was sold to Greek interests, to be finished in Perama. The fourth ship was never finished, as far as I know, but also sold to Greece with plans to make a cruise vessel with the hull...

To my point of view,it is perfectly possible to sail Pride of Dover into Marseille harbour,this harbour is big enough,in some area's.

PRIDE OF DOVER ? ? ? But you are right, the terminals along the Quai De La Joliette or Quai Du Maroc are suitable for berthing such a huge vessel (PoR).

When you put a picture of the 'cosmote' vessel and PO Portsmouth/ Le Havre you can see the difference. Similar general layout though, hence the confusion.

I agree with other comments here that the PO Rotterdam is looking really good.

I can see that the area would be accommodating to the ships, although it would be a tight squeeze. No?

I think you have to decide which entrance you want to take,between to docks inside there are passages,but these can be to narrow for some vessels.
That's what i could see.

On the south side I think is where they accommodate the large ferries, eh? It seems like you cruise in forward and have to back ALLLLL the way out. Hard stuff.

I tried and the stern was caught on the low bed in the bottom of the harbor. I had to do a lot of clever rudder, engine, and bow thruster control to get myself unstuck.

The seabed is contoured and we really need to watch for sandbanks, wrecks etc??? are you serious?

See, where you can dock the PoR in the southern piers, it seems hard to get her out. I ended up backing her out slowly . . . Took a lot of effort and time.
