A Site That Colors Old Titanic Images

They have colored several old images of the Titanic based on a ton of research, and it comes out looking spectacular! Some colored pictures are of places viewable in Ship Simulator, such as Titanic's navigating bridge and the second class entrance interior (at C-deck) (http://titanic-in-color.com/colores/Seconda.jpg) Furthermore, the "Other Photos" tab at the bottom of the Titanic section of the website shows several exterior images of the ship.

I have not known of this site for more than a day, but it has thoroughly blown my mind!

And just recently, I realized that this makes for a great standard by which to compare the Ship Simulator Titanic. As you can see, just about the only difference between these images and Ship Simulator, inside and out, is how they are lit and the quality of the camera. Great job, Vstep and Jason!

Bingo that Union Jack on the foremast at the very front is "inverted" blue where the red should be, etc

Yeah, but that's the only coloring error that I can find on the entire site

I think some of the pictures look a bit too saturated.

As visible in the exterior images, the red on Titanic's hull is supposed to be a dark red, almost matching the black above it, as opposed to a bright, highly visible red.

Also, I really enjoy this image, as I have seen the picture many times, gawking at its scale, and this makes it all look so much more... I don't know, real?

That's not the meaning of saturated. I don't know how to explain it.. some of them are far too brightly red. I don't know if anyone else remembers a long time ago when I made this picture:



Well, the website you posted, RMS G, did the same picture, with an unrealistic amount of saturation. Mine was done when I was a newb graphics editor and had only a month's experience with GIMP and still has a more realistic level of saturation.

I am fairly sure that it alters with te quality of the camera used. For instance:



The original image was of a lower quality than, say, the one used for this picture:



But that's just what I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, upon looking at the picture you refer to, it seems that they depicted it with less cloud cover than how you depicted it, which could be at least one factor.

Wow...that is amazing...I always think seeing things in colour makes such a big difference. Now I can really get a good idea of what she really did look like..

I've seen people on DeviantART bring out colour in these old photos of Titanic.
