"Brand New" Ship, The Selsey II
« on: December 21, 2009, 17:45:32 »

I got the christmas pack thinking there was going to be a whole new ship (like the Jumbo Javelin), Turns out it was the old container ship with new controls, I would've been happier with something smaller from SS06 (like the small container ship or yacht) with a moving propeller (I know it doesnt even have one) a correct image, working rudder and a walkthrough mode. All the ships in SS08 have correct images, props and rudders but selsey II has none and I dont think it even has a damage function (I reversed Vermass into it and a huge chunk of vermass was gone but NONE of Selsey II was even dented). I guess my expectations were too high for this SS06 transfer.

There has been a couple of topics on the German and Dutch forum about this. Terry did say on another forum that many hours of developing and testing were required to simply convert a non playable AI vessel into a player ship. He also said it is simply not possible to add a damage model and animate things such as smoke and rudders. Anyway, it was free, you didn't have to pay for it at all, so I guess complaining is just a little ungrateful.  ;)

Well actually complaining is normal, especially when something as good as the Jumbo Javelin was a freebie. Also the picture they took of it disguised what it actually was a bit.

Why does the picture matter? If you played Ship Simulator 2006 you would of recognised the wheelhouse of the container ship. And you have to remember that the Jumbo Javelin was made by the VSTEP developers over a large amount of time, not in a few weeks by Terry (who also has to moderate the forum and get on with "real life" too, creating add-ons for us isn't his job). Remember Terry is releasing a new pack for us each week ;)

I played SS06 before my computer crashed and I lost the add-on because I sold it. I didnt recognise the thing because I didnt really use it much, only for ramming ships out my way. Performance on it is really bad on 08, barely moves for about 30 secs when on 06 it was soo much better. Sometimes I wish people were allowed to make their own (non real) ships

It may be normal for YOU to complain, but it most definitely is not normal for somebody to complain about a free new player vessel. If its not what you wanted, thats just too bad. If they made it what you wanted, you would have had to pay for it, for sure.

So be grateful...

And you sold the add-on? Isn't that illegal?

One thing though: Maybe we could have the Super Packs on the Creators forum or on another page on the ShipSim site, and keep the Shipyard for "brand new" vessels instead of updated ones?

You could always ask for your money back. Oh wait, they were absolutely free for you! Isn't this very much like a child complaining that his birthday present from a distant relative wasn't big enough?  ???

Nathan, after looking at all Roebot 65's posts, I wouldn't have wasted my time on arguing with him.

THERE IS A SAYING ?YOU CAN PLEASE SOME PEOPLE SOME  OF THE TIME BUT NOT ALL PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME
To me people who complain want to first consider the other person that it may offect and the feeling it may
 cause.
A man who is very busy flying all over the world with his business has had family illness take's the time to
give forum member's FREE SHIPS ADD ON PACKS TILL EXTREMES and most likely other things planed  later
 on.
Complaining NO offering a constructive observation yes .
So to me think before acting because there are also his mission maker's as well to consider who may be hurt

I'm happy with the ship because I loved it from SS06! =)

I see were he is coming from, This Selsey is exactly what I was getting at about converting AI ships to playable which is where people were saying 'It's not good enough for SS08' & 'We only want HQ ships.'
Read Here - http://80.95.161.114/shipsim/forum/index.php/topic,16494.0.html

To be honest about this ship it could've had more work done on it to make it 'SS08 standard'.
There aren't any splashes, bad lights, no walkaround and these weird texture things (Might be my card)
Plus the ship's lenght is longer than it shows on the mission editor when you place the ship. and the side camera goes right through the ship. The picture when you select it in the menu is missleading. It's not SS08 standard.

I'm happy with it because I missed it loads from SS06 and I'm using it loads.

I'm just saying.

I like the fact that some one payed attention to my AI to Playable and honestly it's not that good, but loads of fun and it's better to have than not to have.

I love the ship to be honest and I'm happy with it. =)

Ps. Thanks Terry for taking notice of my AI to playable ship topic =)

I haven't even had a chance of trying this out as my computer is currently at deaths door, and I can't remedy the problem at all.

Hopefully come January I'll be able to have a go. :(
