So walked in to my local AT&T store, walked out with a receipt for an Iphone 3G. Should arrive at the store in 7 - 12 business days for me to go pick up. ;D
I CAN'T WAIT!!!
-
This is a good thing? ::)
;D
-
Of course it is, Iphone FTW. I played with an IPhone first generation before. Super cool!
-
But it's such an over-hyped thing.
The whole "Revolutionary.. It combines 3 products in one" pitch..
A phone, an ipod and an internet device... I got a 4 year old busted up nokia that is also phone, an mp3 player and it has a browser too.. what's so revolutionary about it.. widescreen? well I can see just fine on my normal screen. ;D
I'm not a fan.. obviously.. too much hype with all these Ithings. :D
But hey, to each his own.. I just wanted to rock the boat a little here. ;)

Did yours have the mobile version of the internet??
Did yours have a touch screen?
Did yours have custom apps?
Did yours have email?
Did yours have all the cool i-thingmagigys.
-
how can a phone not be mobile?
No, and I am glad it doesn't.
No, it's a phone that I use to call with, surf in case of emergency, and use for music when I am on the move. For the rest, I have this thing called a computer. ;D
Email, yeah I can email.
No, and those are not cool, I do have nokiaticisms.. or what you'd call that.
;D ;D
Plus did yours have that 4 years ago?
-
ok a mobile PC. But the Iphone has internet with java, flash, all that good stuff. It doesn't take you to mobile sites or low-fi version. As in this forum if seen with a PSP, Wii, or phone it would come with just text and not all the options. Iphone would be what you see on a computer.
-
;D hy all
I have new nokia slide with all gizmos
WHAT DO I DO use the phone ;D
I KNOW sad arnt i
sadsid
-
My mom came out of the store with a Duo. :P She misses the touch screen though. But it is better overall.
-
Oh btw.. I can customize my phone by downloading, say, games for it.. That is an application too, so yeah I have custom applications too! ;D
Of course, 4 years ago, the stuff you mention were not around, if I would get the latest model, It would have all that aswell.. But I dont use all of that, so it's not worth the money to me. ;D
Hehe.. seriously though, congrats mate! ;)
-
Hehe, well I will like it, better then my "worse" phone. Plus I hardly use mine as a phone, just text messaging. So I like the email and web option, I will be able to connect to what I do all day anywhere now. Shopping will no longer be boring!!!
-
I think with what ever gadgets you have, shopping will ALWAYS be boring :o
I see it as a fact of life, shopping is boring.
Congrats on the phone btw :)
-
I have this one ;D
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fa/Nokia_3310.jpg)
You can call with it, send a txt message, play snake and even a personalized ringtone! 8)
It's maybe old, but it's still working fine. this thing is undestroyable, it feld on board from the coaming in to the hold and still working. I don't think a iPhone would survive that.

Agent, you have to explain me something.. in your birthday topic you said that you got a new phone. i assume you have now 2 (two) new phones? :-\
As of 4 minutes ago I am now 14, I got Deadliest Catch Alaskan Storm, Silent Hunter 4, and a new phone!
-
I agree it's overhyped.
The novelty will wear off and it will be an expensive paperweight if it gets dropped. Also a target by thieves.
It's not really that special, it's just an apple product, and anything apple is *cool.
EDIT: Also, at least in Australia mobile web browsing can be extremely expensive. EXTREMELY.
But we always pay premium here.
I believe the iphone [8gb] is $199 in United States. Here it is $750 [8gb]. There is no REAL explanation its just outright ripping Australians off because that's what we're used to...
Oh well we have everything else great ;]
-
a iphone if you break the screen you have to get a brand new one and if you dropped it its not under warranty
-
lucky. all i have is an ipod touch.
-
I'm really sad. Despite my tecchie-ness, I have a mobile phone that only gets switched on when I want to make a call or when I check for text messages.
I absolutely refuse to be at the beck and call of everyone else who has a telephone.
If anyone wants to speak to me, they can use my land-line and deal with my call centre (oh yes, I have one of those in North Wales).. If they can get past them, they can talk to my PA. If after that, it's anything that would be of interest to me, she sends me a text message.
No-one except her and my family know the number of my mobile phone, so that keeps it the way I want it.
My phone lasts about two months between charges....
-
The new phone from my birthday was a phone for my room not a cell phone. ;)
-
You need very long extension cables to carry it around with you.
Now, a phone for the room is MUCH better!
Neat pressie! ;D
how can a phone not be mobile?
That's how! ;D

Not as bad as the captain giving us all specs on the cruise ship we are on. Apparently we were running on electricity and if you looked towards the rear of the vessel you could see a long string of cords going back to L.A. where we were plugged in. :P
-
I've always woundered, why do they call it the 3G why not the 3D. ;)

That is the new "faster" network type, it isn't "Wi-Fi" it is "3G"
-
I thought about buying an iPhone but it looks like I'm going to buy an HTC Touch Diamond instead because it isn't that "locked". I think Apple have very strict and strange demands to the users.
But the iPhone seems like a cool phone :)

Eep! I meant "mobile phone" there... gosh darned! ;D :P

Too much marmite, Fred.
-
Nah, I eat Fredgemite!
That's my own mix, it's made of the following ingredients:
Blended raw bloody steak
Liquified Beef Jerky
Tobasco sauce
Crude oil
Rock salt, still in rock form of course
Sambal
Essence of cat's bum
Suspicious looking toxic molds
And Battery acid
It would be lovely on bread, but it unfortunatly completely desolves the bread when applied to it. And the plate, come to think of it... and the kitchen table..
So I make it in enamel pots, that get worn through every 6 or 7 batches. And just eat straight from the pot, with a titanium spoon, that stays good for about 6 months.
It's a real spicey spread (which you cannot actually spread on anything eatable).. It'll make a man out of everyone! Even Spambot! ;D

You've met my ex-wife, then?
-
My friend has an iPhone I was using it today.. it's alright, apart from the touch screen. It is really easy to bump letters next to the character you are trying to type. [ and no, I don't have fat fingers :P].
Have fun with it!

Anyway, I have a phone, but I just did not really want it :(. I really dont care if you can touch the screen of the phone. I see a phone as a device that lets you call people. Not to text message or have games or play music. With text messaging, the bill goes up and up and up. To be honest, I never really use my phone. But, yesterday, it did come in handy because I sprained my ancle at the basket ball courts.

I have an unlimited data plan for $70. The bill will never go up no matter how much I use it. Even with my old plan I had 200 text messages for $50 a month.

or a cat that just has seen a Iphone that the kitty wish ;D

I love my iPod Touch, and the only reason I don't have an iPhone is because it's FAR too expensive. And I don't mean the device, I mean the price plans. £35-70 a month is ridiculous.
-
Why do they have to make it such strange numbers,so exact, 3G,why not call it 10G or 5G or a number we'll remember ::)

because 3G stands for 3rd Generation ... :)
-
Yes.
1st Generation were the "mobile" phones that needed a small engine to move them. I had one of those. It weighed a ton! The battery was separate, or you could wire it into the car's system. It was portabe, in that it communicated by radio waves.
We used to sign it out from the company if we needed a phone. As the company was Racal, and they had the very first such phones in the UK, we were amongst the first to use them, I think. Back in the mid to late 1980s.
2nd Generation were smaller. I had a "Mars Bar", which was large compared to today's devices, but probably the best I've ever had. It was easy to carry in my inside jacket pocket, the screen was large enough to read even when it was sat in a cradle in my car. The keys were large enough for me to use. It was voice operated! "Phone! Dial Fred". And it did.
Now I have a 3G phone and I hate the stupid little thing. I need a magnifying glass to read the screen. I need a match stick to press the keys. It takes 20 key presses to do what I used to do with one or two presses.
I will not use it for internet or emails or watching movies. I have a 21" monitor in my office and larger still at home for doing that. Why do I want to struggle with something the size of a postage stamp and pay vast sums of money for it, when using my phone?
Progress? Not for me. >:( :( (Victor Meldrew impression here)

I do not really agree ... 1G, 2G and 3G correspond to wireless telecommunication norms, written by the ITU (International Communication Union).
1G corresponds to analog cellphones, in the early 80s
2G corresponds to the GSM norm, and the data protocols that were added later over it (GPRS - "2.5G" and EDGE - "2.75G" ). Most of mobile phones (still built and used) today are "2G", even very small ones !!!!
3G corresponds to the UMTS norm, whose main purpose is to accelerate data transfer rates on mobile equipements (mobile phones, smartphones, PDA, usb stick for laptops, ...)
-
And, oh, by the way, I'm totally aware this is absolutely off topic ;D ;D ;D

Hi Denis!
What I said is correct, though. My original phone was one of the very first ever produced. Although we didn't call it such, it was a first generation device. As I said, this was in the early 80's. Racal (the company for whom I worked) were the first to produce such devices, I think. (That part of Racal later became Vodaphone).
The next, smaller one I had was indeed "2G" and much smaller. As you say, it was a GSM device.
Sorry to disagree about current phones, but in the UK, they've been advertisd and sold as 3G for some while. My current phone is 3G most certainly. Although I hate it, it does perform complex data transmissions for me.
Look here:
http://www.3g.co.uk/PR/Oct2007/5280.htm to see one of my phones. I've had this stupid device since October last year.
The size is just a reflection of the progress of the electronics.

Your iPhone 3G order is ready to be picked up at the AT&T store where
you reserved it. Please bring your reservation receipt and a valid ID
when you pick-up your order. You will also want to ensure that your
account is in good standing at time of pickup by making payment in

Our AT&T representative will contact you to arrange a pick up time. If
you are an Original iPhone customer our representative can assist you
with activating your new iPhone 3G and also your Original iPhone. Your
