I'm sure some of you know the totally FREE operating system of Linux or Unix and alike but you may not know that Fire Fox is banned form Linux systems.
Why -- The logo is <copy righted>
But Linux users wanted Fire Fox so they asked them to make another version that uses a different logo that isn't copy righted. Thus...
Ice Weasel (The opposite of Fire-Fox) Free for download.
;DLaugh Now ;D
-
LOL. :D is this for real though. :D
-
hehe funny, is it serious?
-
I doubt it.. Here's the original... ;D
-
yes I know I use that one
-
"rebranded the Mozilla Firefox program, and other software released by Mozilla, so that Debian could continue to distribute the software with modifications permitted, without being bound by the use of trademark requirements that the Mozilla Foundation had required. The new names established by Debian were Iceweasel for Mozilla Firefox, Icedove for Mozilla Thunderbird, and Iceape for SeaMonkey. These changes were implemented in the subsequent version of Debian (Etch). In July 2007, Iceowl, a rebranded version of Mozilla Sunbird, was added to the unstable branch of Debian."
The above was direct form the Wikipedia on "Ice Weasel"
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Corporation_software_rebranded_in_Debian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Corporation_software_rebranded_in_Debian)>
so in other words, YES, this is true! :D
-
I remember not so long ago, finding in Wikipedia that I had died of alcoholic poisoning in a Tibetan monastry. That was posted by a friend. It took a little while to get it taken down.
So, you can really trust everything you read there....
But in any case, this is referrring to an off-shoot of Firefox, isn't it? "unstable branch"
-
well there website says nuffink about it so i would take it to be fake
-
It's not a FAKE >:( (but it is funny) ;)
you can download it here.
<http://www.debianhelp.co.uk/iceweasel.htm (http://www.debianhelp.co.uk/iceweasel.htm)>
-
Ah, but if you go to
http://packages.debian.org/etch/iceweasel
You'll see that it does indeed exist.
But it isn't correct to say that it is Firefox that had the logo problems. It is Debian, who modified Firefox for their own purposes under the GNU licnse who have the problems.
"Iceweasel is a free software derivation of the Mozilla Firefox web browser."
-
Yes Terry, 100% correct compared to my 90% ;)
-
Hey, I'd settle for 51%... ;D
-
Hey, Look, I need a good laugh right now...
I'm in the middle of a 2 hour documentary on the history of bread. :P
Yay! :D
-
I'm preparing a ship's radio course for ten people tomorrow. Yours is more boring than mine, though, I think.
-
Now this guy is going on about how in a Jewish Holy bread factory the person making the bread must through a small bit of the mother dough into the oven to symbolize a sacrifice.
I mean sure it's educational but... ::)

Yay! :D
The history og BREAD, comeon was it on Discovery?
-
Nope, History channel - oh it's history all right
-
But they really made a documentary about bread, that seems stubid to me
-
You and everyone else in the world. :P
-
That's on a par with my book "250 most boring postcards from the USA". ;D
Only beaten by "250 mind-numbing postcards from the UK".
-
That's not a LOL that's a 'NIRLOLIMCWIRT' Translation below
<==>
No, I really laughed out load in my chair when I read that.
-
I truly do have those books! Volume I and II of the usa postcards. (my wife's idea of a joke)
Some of them are absolutely mind-numbing. I simply cannot imagine why anyone might have produced them.
I'll scan some in and post them later.
-
I used Internet Explorer 7 but it kept on crashing all the time >:( >:(, as when I type this message I use Firefox 3 :D!!! Firefox is the BEST Web Browser :D :D!!!
-
I agree with you Titanic, let's hope Terry doesn't read this... ;D
-

It's OK, I didn't read it.
Question: If Firefox really is standards compliant, how come some of the javascripts that I produced worked fine in FF2, but now won't work with FF3? One or other must be non-compliant. ::) ???
So these calims must be rubbish, musn't they?
-
Seems to me you're doing something wrong.. ;)
Just pulling your leg there, I have no issues with Javascript, luckily..
-
Seems to me you're doing something wrong.. ;)
Like what?
If Firefox is so perfectly standards compliant and the javascript worked perfectly well with FF2, then it should work perfectly well on the alledgedly perfectly compliant Firefox 3, shouldn't it?
But then, if Firefox was actually so perfect, it wuld be at Version 1.0, wouldn't it? Actually, I know the reason and it is due to one of the many bugs in Firefox.
As I've said before, Firefox is a pile of junk. So is Internet Explorer. Neither are properly standards compliant. The difference is that Microsoft's developers are arrogant and don't pay much attention to feedback, while Firefox developers are sanctimonious and don't believe any feedback about their cherished product.
Can you tell I'm not impressed by either bunch? Just don't fall into the trap of thinking either is better than the other. They are just awful in different ways.
-
Hiya all :)
I agree with Terry about FF, but seeing as I've only tried that one, and IE, my opinion is kinda limited ::)
Has anyone tried any other browsers? If so, which ones?
Carl.
-
Netscape was always my favourite. I was really saddened when it ceased recently. :'(
I had that from day one, when there was nothing else, and long before Microsoft found out about the internet.
-
I did try Netscape in work (because I couldn't be bothered changing it back) a few years ago, but never tried it at home ;)
I saw a report a few months ago, about Safari (the Mac crossover). Has anyone tried it at all?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safari_%28web_browser%29
-
Whatever happened to Netscape..?
-
My friend Wiki knows what happened:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netscape_Communications_Corporation
:D
-
It had the piug pulled a few weeks ago. Il est morte!
PS. according to Wikki a while ago, I died of alcoholic poisoning in a Tibetan monastry a few years back. So trust Wikki. Trust Firefox. Trust no-one.
-
Firefox works fine for me, in my opinion it's the BEST Web Browser :D. Netscape is surely not bad, but Internet Explorer is just bad, it keeps on crashing all the time >:(, fix it Bill Gates!!! Firefox is the easiest Web Browser I've ever used :D!!!
Edited for language, DJM.
-
Internet Explorer works fine with me, but I use both
-
Last time I went to a friends house with Internet explorer...
What do you think was the first thing I did? ;)
-
downloaded Firefox?
-
No kidding. ;D
-
I know I do the same thing
-
Firefox works fine for me, in my opinion it's the BEST Web Browser :D. Netscape is surely not bad, but Internet Explorer is just crap, it keeps on crashing all the time >:(, fix it Bill Gates!!! Firefox is the easiest Web Browser I've ever used :D!!!
Errr... Why would kindly uncle Bill come round to fix your defective computer? ;D ;)
-
I've always wanted to know...
If Mr. Gates had kids and they asked him to buy them a Yacht for their birthday if he would do it, or not.
Bill is known for his penny pinching attitude (He's been seen at lunch counters fighting over a 2cent tip) :P
-
He always said that he didn't want to spoil his kids with endless money. It seems that many rich folk's kids turn rotten. So full marks to him if he keeps the kids and the money apart and makes them work for it.
I have some "original" Microsoft shares, but all the income goes to third world projects, not to my kids. Similar reasoning. Both my son and daughter work for my company, but they get no special favours, They work hard to suck seed. ;D
-
"original" Microsoft shares," you say...Hmmm :-\
*cough*big boat*cough*
:D :D
-
You have to remember that when Microsoft started, they had virtually no money. Somtimes they offered shares instead. The smarter people said "OK, thanks". That said, no, none of my money comes from those shares. It all comes from working very hard for a long time.
But I am probably going to buy a bigger boat shortly. 28foot Sunseeker. Twin 320 Volvo Pantas, etc. Went and had look today. Made an offer just now.... 8)
To keep on topic, that boat will NOT have Firefox installed. It is absolutely useless for a boat. ::)
-
Work... That is where most money comes from. :-\ :D
What do you mean "useless for a boat" I have "Fire Fox" and "Ice Weasel" on my boat. (Which has a plugin for my laptop...or a Wii for my friends) ;D
-
I tried getting Firefox to haul up the anchor chain for me (I don't have a winch). It refused.
So, I asked it to fill up te fuel tanks. It just sat there lazing in the sun.
I asked it to catch the morring ropes. It watched them sail overhead.
So, Firefox is useless on a boat. ???
-
That's weird, I asked it to find a map of southern cape cod and it gave me google earth and there you go. ;)
