Title: Is this GRAPHICS CARD good enough?????
Post by: matt105 on February 13, 2008, 11:16:29
Yes im back again i finally realised my graphics slot is AGP 8x...Not PCI

So here is the link for it: http://www.dynax.co.za/product_info.php?products_id=539

only a couple of probs i found with it..

Is it good for SS08?
Is there a better series then that out there for AGP 8x (i looked everywhere so i doubt it)
AND MOST OF ALL.... Since its a  7600GS.. Is GS good or bad?

if you can find a good, cheap one for SS08 please tell me.

Cheers, Matt

Edited for language, DJM.

Hiya Matt :)

The GS cards are ok, but there are better cards out there, even for AGP slots ;)

so it doesn't matter if my motherboard is DDR, i can still use DDR2 or 3 even for graphics cards only. Also i heard that DDR 1 and DDR2 have different pins is that true?

yes fore the mem in grapick card sits on the card and not on you motherbord do that dosent metter at all, they have diferent pins  so on the motherbord you can't use diferent mem but have you power enof to drive this you most atlist haw a PSU  400 W

my self has motherboard with ddr 2 ram and graphic card with ddr 4 works perfect

That's true ;)

DDR 2 and above are backwardly compatible with previous versions (DDR), so you should have no problems ;)

The pins on DDR/DDR2 RAM are different, but AGP and PCI-e are standard, so again you shouldn't have any problems ;)

If anyone was to advise you of buying THAT particular card, and it was a bad choice, you wouldn't be too happy I would imagine.  I will refrain from advising on a particular purchase because of this, surely it's a personal decision that only you should make ;)

Ok, I can advise that the 7300GT is a good card, but I can't advise of which Manufacturer (or Retailer) you should buy it from ;)

Cheers, Matt

It may be just me, but something coming from an 'unknown graphics shop' would be a scary thought :o

Despite what most people think, nVidia don't manufacture their own cards.  Have a look on google for nVidia cards, and you'll see that they are all preceeded by PNY, ASUS, MSI, Sparkle, or some other manufacturer.  These cards can have subtle differences between different manufacturers ;)

Personally I don't like auction sites, I never have, but that's me ;)

So my answer will be yes i will buy it..lol

It's a decision only you can make of course, and don't let me put you off......I'm just fussy ;D

lol no probs, i was scared for a moment because they wrote AGP 8x all over the page and on one part where it says, AGP 8x PCI-E or PCI: it said PCI-E.. But i asked them and they said it was a typo so i was relieved...

Well thanks anyway and i hope to see you all soon on multiplayer.

Cheers, Matt

Something's telling me that i am not allowed to play SS08 with decent graphics..lol. Im going to comp fair tommorow and getting a New Computer Tower (BOX)  as mine is old and i will be getting 500w not 350w :P.

My computer did not have a good enough graphics card for Ship Simulator 2008. Although my PC is a Sony this means little as like many others it is assembled from components made by a wide range of manufacturers and is over 3 years old. Noone can say with authority what new graphics cards will or won't work with it. Sony said that I should not change the card as that would void any warranty. They have been very good with support but if the graphics are not good enough it gives problems with SS2008. In my case the sea just showed as a heaving grid and vital information was not visible for many missions.

My PC had an AGP Graphics card in a single AGP slot. It also has PCI slots but not the later PCI-E slots. The best value AGP graphics card I could find would haave cost me £90. A bit steep if it might be money down the drain. Then a couple of weeks ago Maplins offered in a sale

'ATI Radeon Saphire HD 2400 Pro 256mb' for £50.

I bought this and had my brother-in-law fit it and it works...so far..

For anyone thinking of buying SS2008 or upgrading from SS2006 to SS2008 I suggest borrowing a friends SS2008 to see if you can see the sea. If you can't then either stick with or buy  SS2006 or wait till you have upgraded your PC or bought a new one.  BrianG
