Wow. Is he making the vessel complete "walkable"?

Wow. Is he making the vessel complete "walkable"?
At the moment it will just be the top 3 decks as i want to get this finished but i've been caught up in other stuff like work at home problems (nothing to worry about).
Also i am waiting for some more interior shots so i know how certain things look like but i may just have to guess going by the photos i have and the cad file i have as well but i will get there (hopefully as quick as i can so i can get on with other projects).
Simon.
-
Ohhhhhh can I see a bridge shot?
-
Heres how the interior is looking (not textured)

Marc

Fantastic work. Man, she has a very tight wheel house, eh?
-
wow, its looking very good simon, keep up the god work. KM
-
Will this ship be in Virtural Sailor also. :)
Thats up to V-Step as this is there model and they would decide if i would be aloud to convert it to VS.
-
I think it would be better for just shipsim. :)
-
Updated the above images.
-
Being that the model will be used to generate funds for the vessel itself, I would not think they would allow it to be in VS as well.
-
Updated images.

Oh my God the interior is huge! Will the game even be able to cope with that?
-
Simondr the doat looks better than the real one. Super job. Cant wait for it to be done.
-
a quote from Paris Hilton explaining this ship would probably be "That's hot" and I agree ;D ;D
-
Thanks all.
-
Wow :o the ship look really great ;D. KM
-
Simon, again, you have worked magic. Really, really wonderful.
-
I feel stuipd for asking this but. I searched the Elbe and I didn't find out wut type of ship she is, could some1 tell me??
-
Puller/pusher I believe.
-
i half to agree with paris hilton on this one that is an awsome ship :D
-
Thanks all ;D
While i was away last week i managed to finish of the modelling for the 2nd deck interior but not textured.
images here. http://www.simondr.co.uk/stuff/wip/elbe.html

Wow. AWESOME work. With all of these rooms and cabins and such, how far of trips did this vessel undergo? It looks like she went some distances in order to have such accommodations.
-
Greetings,
Yes,Dave but remember, when that vessel came out,for the first time. That was in a time that there was a lot of crewman still needed. If you compair it with now these days, every crewmember is expensive.
A older friend of mine,he was on the seagoing vessel, when he was young, and there where on his vessel about 40 member onboard.
Now these days it's maybe half of that amount,or maybe less.

Marc

That is a good point. Automation has changed a lot. However, it is interesting to see that the ship would maintain having so many accommodations and not converting them, unless the vessel did so and maintained some space for occasional passengers and longer range missions.
-
Finished modelling of the main deck interior with some texturing done.
All i need to do now is finish of the bridge deck then start texturing everything.
Will also have to remember to add handrails to the main alleyways as well.

-
Wow, that's a real maze of corridors!
-
Just updated the external view of her showing the portholes on the hull. Also tidied up the deck around the superstructure )although you cant see any different).

Don'tforget -- Elbe was a seagoing tug (now retired and a restoration project) and as such needed 2 full watches, both deck and engineer. The modernization spoken of didn't happen to her because she was no longer really in active service by then.
Cheers,
Michael

Seagoing tugs are a totally different beast than their harbor counterparts . . . And I love seagoing tugs. Those old Spambot are tough.
-
Hello all.
Been a while with updates but here it is.
Today i finally finished the Elbe model after a lot of re-doing stuff etc. I recently got proper plans of the 3 interior decks and basically re-built all 3 from scratch (apart from the chairs) and it actually came out better than before and with less polygons.
The model and bits are now with V-Step to do there magic and get it in the game.
So i have updated all the interior shots here as they will look in the game for your viewing pleasure.
http://www.simondr.co.uk/stuff/wip/elbe.html
I think this is the longest i have ever been on one model and hope i don't be on any others this long in the future.
Simon.
-
Hi Simon!
This model is just brilliant! I love it! Good to finally see a finished project - congratulations! I am looking forward to seeing that vessel in the sim. :)

-
Yeah! It takes a man to add all that interior. ;)
-
Dude, this ship looks beautifull, and so much detail, whats the polycount?
-
Thanks all.
Dude, this ship looks beautifull, and so much detail, whats the polycount?
Main model not including interiors 47481
Top deck interior 15233
Middle deck interior 11023
Bottom deck interior 13224
The interior decks can be switched on and off during game play so shouldn't affect game play much.
-
RESPECT !!!!! ;)
It locks so great.
-
Great job Simondr. ;D Cant wait.
-
47481 Polygons!!! :o
If you put that in the BF2 engine it would freeze up the whole game, i wonder how Shipsim's engine would handle that?
For BF2 the maximum polycount for a model is something like 8000, anything above that would lag incredibly.
-
Yes it is. Titanic had 800,000 poly count. I think
-
looks great simon ;D can't wait to see it in the game. KM
-
Thanks Guys ;D
-
So simondr how long untill they can put it in the game. ;D ;D
-
I don't think it will be soon because of all this patch business :'(
-
I can't believe the detail this model has!! :o
Finally we have fantastic interiors and the detail is incredible. I love this ship I can't wait to put her on the rough seas!
Also I love the attention to detail even on the interior and at last the wheelhouse has more than just 1 column for the nav controls.
Well Done Simon you are the master at creating these 3D models. If you quit I'm going to be deeply saddened.
-
Greetings Friend!!!
Nice project again !!!! Brilliant detail and fantastic interiors !!!!
Regards Dejan
-
goax75, CaptainSpencer: Thanks guys.
Like Shipaddict said it may be a while while they sort out the patch, the main thing is i finally finished it so now i can start doing something else which is a nice change.
Simon.

Could I make a small request? Could you think about creating a wooden boat such as a classic cruiser or something? We could really use at least 1 wooden boat in the game ;)
-
I have started a small wooden boat called Bluebird of Chelsea which would be nice in SS which you can see an image of the model here http://www.simondr.co.uk/stuff/wip/wip.html and how it will look here http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/LowerThamesMedway_Co/Cruise-20060614-297_Bluebird-of-Chelsea_900.jpg and here http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/LowerThamesMedway_Co/Cruise-20060614-326_Bluebird-of-Chelsea_900.jpg
If you have some ideas of boats you would like to see then let me know the only problem would be getting plans of them.
This one i got the plans free with an issue of radi control boats magazine.
-
Wow that's exactly what I was after!!! ;D
I love all the boats you have on that page. Specially the wooden one and the paddle steamer, they're both great. I see you have a battle ship too ;D
EDIT: Will your completed boats be included in the SS08 Patch or futher additions? I sure hope they are :)
-
Any further boats i make that go into the game will probably be part of the subscription service that they are planning. It also depends if they can get permission from the owners of the boats to let them put them in the game. For vessels that are no longer around like the Strongbow i'm not sure what will happen there.
I can't see the Nanuchka going in but when its done it will be available for Virtual Sailor.
The others we will have to wait and see.

Well either way I hope some of them do go into the game because you are so talented mate. I only wish I could do the same thing. I'm creative in a different way (websites).
I'll keep watching your progress with amazement!
-
;D Thanks for that.
-
Nice ship! Very good, marcstrat! :)
-

EDIT: i noticed i said Goax75 by mistake, i change it to simondr, and i hope you can accept my apology simon.
