Title: Elbe and Furie Edition
Post by: Alex201 on October 10, 2007, 21:21:14
In the Shipping News of Piet Sinke I spotted the addon pack for 2008 "Elbe and Furie" Edition to raise money for those beautiful classic tugs (the articel said Vstep sponsored the game). It is for sale on http://www.zeesleperelbe.nl (http://www.zeesleperelbe.nl) sadly the website is only in dutch.
It is for sale since 8 october for 15 euro. I haven't tried it yet, but I will order it soon.

Did anyone tried it already?

Pardon the digression, but this post reminded me:
Does anyone know if the TV series Holland’s Glorie was ever released on DVD?
Failing that, an NTSC conversion of a videotape. (I can handle PAL DVD but not tape.)
Thanks
Marty

Alex those ships will be awesome but I didn't think the add-on was finished yet. If it were surely we'd see it on the Shipsim website? Is that Dutch page just for pre-orders?

Greetings,
Yes,this is a page, that you can order this amazing add-on.
However i think that Vstep will help us to,to order it direct by them.Specialy for the members they live in the U.S. and New Zeeland, poeple who live far from Holland.

In that case VSTEP please hurry up and make it available, a download version would be great.

And thanks for the heads-up Alex!

The thing is that Vstep made it for sponsership to raise money for those tugs and other classic ships. Maybe Vstep will not even sell it on their own site. Just wait for their response I guess..

But ... okey. Cool... So you can use this stuff with Ship Simulator 2008? :o
Does it mean that we can see the ships in the game after installation?

This sounds like a 3rd add-on pack to me ;D

Title: Re: Elbe and Furie Edition
Post by: mark on October 11, 2007, 14:15:37

Please note that this version is only for sale on this website and only suitable for the Dutch version of Ship Simulator.

All profits made with the sale of this Add-On goes to the organisation which is maintaining these two ships.

In January we will create a multi language version of this Add-On and also sell it from our own website.

Hello all,

After i installed the elbe/furie edition, the Fairmount Sherpa won't work anymore!
The only thing i can see of the sherpa is a grey surface and 2 radars.
Does anyone had the same after installing the e/f edition?

Hi brammer4 :)

Are you using the Dutch version of SS? This Elbe/Furie edition version is only suitable for the Dutch version of Ship Simulator.

Later on, these vessels will also become available for other versions of SS.

My cd box says it should be dutch, but the game itself is in english. Maybe I missed a language menu, I don't know. Don't really like to change it, because I'm used to the english now.

I don't know if I should buy this addon now...

The game was allready out, when there came a question from the organisation to work together with Vstep.
From then on they started to create these vessels,so thats why it was not possible to bring them from the first moment.

I've got the Dutch version of Ship Simulator 2008 and the menu's are in Dutch language
right from the start of the game.

***You can also install the Elbe and Furie Addon as stand alone sim.
To do this, first uninstall the main Ship Sim 2008.***

After installing the add-on Elbe and Furie edition my ss2008 was corrupted. In the dutch forum i found a way how to install but it is not completly correct now. I have now version 1.012 instead of 1.015 witch i had before the add-on Elbe and Furie was installed.

I installed this way:

1. ss2008 first version
2. patch 1.1
3. add-on for ss2008
4. language patch
5. add-on Elbe and Furie.

Now i have some strange messages (wrong language) in the missions.

As long as it takes, I would say..  ::)

Seriously though. Everyone knows by now that VSTEP is very busy finishing the coming Addon. So my educated guess would be they will focus on the next thing after that's released... And as they allready hinted about the Elbe & Furie, I guess it could be up next.

A date, however, is not known!

Post by: Aad The Pirate on June 28, 2008, 18:10:55
Love them, especial the Furie. In my younger years, long, long ago, I was a deckhand on a steam tug. Not a seagoing, but hey, a steam tug is a steam tug. And now, when I zoom in at the funnel (see screenie), I almost can smell the lovely aroma off overheated steam, burning coal and hot grease.
Title: Re: Elbe and Furie Edition
Post by: TerryRussell on June 28, 2008, 18:22:13
Good shot!

I remember when I was a kid, near to where we lived there was a roadbridge over the main London to Portsmouth, Southampton and West Country railway line. There were loads of steam trains going under that bridge. The station (Wlaton-on-Thames) was nearby and had a lot of trains stopping there.

As they pulled away and came under the bridge, we would wait until the smoke hit the bridge and then rush to the other side to see if we could touch the side before the smoke hit that side. We used to go home blackened by the smuts.

The smell of sulphurated coal and steam, and the noise will stay with me. Wonderful smells, wonderful times!

Prepare yourself for a series of screenies from the Furie and the Elbe.
The Furie likes the sea, she goes trough it like a destroyer on the 3rd pic, though she makes only 9 knots at that moment. Rudder and propellor out of the wet on the 5th pic .

Ahoy Capt'n Best,
I bought the boxed version at http://www.furie.nl/
It just costs €URO 15,00 plus postage :). You have to require the info about the postage-fee to Norway at that same address. Inside Holland it was €URO 2,50 ;D
Be aware of a minor bug :o concerning the Horn from the Elbe and the whistle of the Furie. You can read in this topic about it.

In the stand-alone version of the Elbe and Furie edition ther's a nice steamwhistle hearable at the Furie, but the nice steam-plume is not visible.

Yeah, she's missing the beautiful smoke blanket coming out of her funnel, will VSTEP actually fix that in the English version? I must say i had no idea Elbe was so big and beautiful, ohh mannnnn im hungy for Elbe and FURIE NOW even more  ;D ;D.Great pictures by the way, i think ill run these vessles 24-7, i love these kind so much :D.Also when a steam tug blows its whistle heavy white smoke comes out.......ohhh if only Furie would have that, i could pay 5 extra euro for the boat.... ::)

Well, there are a few pictures available from the internet, showing that there is almost no smoke to see above the "Furie" funnel. But it would be great to have a white steam stream from the whistle of course!

Yes, we encourage VSTEP to add black/gray/pale kind of smoke to Furie as if adds more power on the engine, and evrytime she blows her whiste white smoke coming out of her pipe spreading out randomly and loosely and slowly fading away after releasing the H button. And if those 2 addintions will be added, than SHE wiil BEE a MASTERPICE!

See below.

Must be possible. If anyone of You has ever seen the steamtrain models on Microsoft Train Simulator You know what I'm talking 'bout.
I will look for some awesome screenshots to show those people who are not familair with MSTS

To be honest, as I have firstly seen the "Furie" I asked VSTEP to improve her smoke. But after an internet research and a few kind words from the developers, I have to agree: there is no smoke. Well, your picture looks much more like a good old not environmental friendly steamer!

Cheers

MV Greenpeace could have been sold to become Elbe just because of her dysfunctioning injectors, but Furie has a fuel oil burner and emitting black fatty smoke is more a sign of sleepy engineer(s).
I think the picture was taken before his awakening?  :D

So you are saying that she is a modern steamer huh? Usualy there is alot of smoke coming out of that funnel of that kind of ship, but if there isnt than that must mean she is NOT coal fired. If not that what is she running on? But then can still make the white smoke right? come on im running on dry here peoples  :-X , blah... environmentally friendly steamer, a true ship has nice smoke shooting out, around gray/black/white-ish colour, but not too much depending of the throttle power. So it must mean that is releasing like heat and some smoke....hmmm how odd..

your right she is not coal fired but she is by oil

HA :D, that must explain why VSTEP has not added much smoke at all on to it.But as i looked today at a similar tug, true she was not shooting smoke but like heat waves that you could see, like wavey kind of air radiating off out of the funnel, so maybe VSTEP can make that instead of nothing and that should fully complete her.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vPwG2EXBcE - something like this, just look carefully at the steam (roughly)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_Tug_Wattle - here's an example of a oil stem tug, maybe similar to Furie and max RPM

Hi Aad,
Now all can see what an excellent model "Furie" really is in the game. It is difficult to see the difference from the real ship. Thanks for the photos, you have a good eye for it.

This is the old, Dutch only Elbe and Furie edition, brought to the Dutch players by the association that keeps these floating museums afloat, and it has been around for quite some time too. The ships that are sold on the Shipyard are/will be better than the old ones.

Fred

Ahoy Fred
And to bring a dead corps out of the closet: How about the buyers of the (crippled) Elbe & Furie Edition? Anything known about a patch or something like that to make the old vessels sound as they should? Or a discount on the Shipyard models?

Aad

How ever... I cannot wait for the ELBE.

Waiting for so long really sucks!

I really thougt there would come a wave of ships to all of us... but when even the ELBE takes sooo much time..
How long time the next Ship, or even Location will take than?

I´m little dissapointed... sry... (so much egoism, BUT)

Greats..

We have one such mission ready and waiting on the Creators Forum.

Traddles produced two versions, one that requires Furie & Elbe (Failed Trip to Hamburg) and another that requires neither. (Failed Trip to Hamburg2)

Is Elbe on her way to the shipyard? What to do with a mission or two (or three) for the Elbe if she is still under construction? Not everybody bought the Elbe & Furie Edition ;)

Elbe is probably coming in the next few weeks, and they made a mission because traddles is probably a beta tester and he tested the elbe and is now making missions to come with its release. ;)
