Title: V Step Appreciation Thread
Post by: shaka on September 08, 2007, 08:32:02
Hi All

After coming to this forum yesterday afternoon to see the situation on the upcoming patch, I was shocked to read some of the comments made by people on some of the posts here. It made me angry to see so many people acting like children over this. Poor DJM to whom I have grate respect for at one point even had to close down a thread, because it was getting so out of hand.

So I have made this topic so we can talk about all the good things V Step have done to make this simulator  the fantastic game it is.

All The Best

Michael

Same here. Vstep did an impressive job. Still some bugs and things...but the big picture looks very much better after the we have seen what the patch contains - bugs or not. Also I have been looking at the controls in the settings...even more controls to manipulate with for future expensions.
So yes...good job guys

Michael

Awesome work, just ignore the kids moaning around. This is so much more than a usual patch, with things the players have suggested and making a good game even better, keep up the good work!

You shouldn't be shocked because I think many of our members are children, age 7-15.
They get very excited, and the delay of the patch was hard for them to handle. Then you see reactions like that, but I do agree that some of the posts were rude, the worst ones were removed. Anyway I think both the dev. team and the mods understand that...you know children ;)

Hiya everyone :)

I believe this is a great topic for the entire team to see, it tells us that we are all doing exactly what needs to be done.

Vstep thoroughly deserve these positive comments after all the hard work they've put into our wonderful game :)

Speaking for myself here, it's great to see that you appreciate the effort involved in keeping the community a nice place to be, gives me a warm fuzzy feeling :)

Kind regards.

DJM.

One of the problems with kids today is that they are exposed to "Instant gratification" - they are led to believe by some TV programmes and some parents that things can be obtained as soon as they want them without any pain, expense or effort. (OMG I'm turning into a grumpy old man!!) :-\

^ Agreed but were not talking about the stupid thread owner :p

I was whining on the 17th and the 31st just because they said it might be there and I really wanted it after seeing all those wonderful pictures that the BETA team took. I have made an arcade style game in game maker and it takes 2 days. But physics and dynamics coded from hand? :O

I agree with you guys this thread is a brilliant idea, I hope we beat the other Patch thread with praise as the team do deserve after putting up with some rude people on here  ;)  ;D

Great work guys I'm loving the game and always have, makes a change to being able to blow things up and shoot people. Nothing like sailing on the ocean with a beautiful sunset and calm waters  :)

I sure hope VSTEP don't stop developing this game after a couple of years, it could become something huge and already is. Well done guys, you've done us all proud  ;)

I can only add my thanks on this theme. I've come to the conclusion that the developers, moderators and all concerned with Ship Simulators 2006 and 2008 must be extremely talented to be able to turn out this game. I will always be very grateful to Sturmfarht, Bottman and Rooster24 too. I've got about 35 missions downloaded from them as well as all the extras in the add-on. I'm going to be here till I'm too old to press buttons before I get bored!!!!! ;D ::)

I've been testing the game for four hours and couldn't find anything serious. I really enjoy this update, was afraid of the "bleed through" issues discussed here but the patched game works great on my system.

So yes, thumbs up for VSTEP and the moderators, your efforts for the community are very much appreciated.
Thank you all (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

Add me to those who agree that V-Step has done a SUPERB job on this.  Considering the complexity and detail in this simulation..I'm amazed and very happy it has as few bugs or quirks as it does, and I'm sure V-Step will continue to work hard on squashing those that are left and will add to the simulation also.

And I, for one, will continue to buy their products.

Hi shipfan55

It was not in my mind to offend anyone just to point out that writing rude or offensive posts does not make anything go any faster.

But I am concerned that when you quoted me you changed the wording from "It made me angry to see so many people acting like children over this" to "It made me angry to see so many people whining like children over this."

All The Best

ahum. i agree with it, that the posts on that ''patch time'' topic were awfull.
but you don't tell me that we have to be patiend after 2 delays, and so everybody got his mind that it would delay another time, so why do we still have to be patiend, (well finaly we got the patch ;))
that's just what i wanted to tell, i hope you understand that ;)

btw, patch is awsome!  ;D

Shipfan55. This just is not acceptable at all. Do not deliberately misquote people in this way.

Shaka. Apologies that this has happened to your post. I think your comments, and indeed, this whole topic is a credit to you. Thank you.

Well, the patch/add-on download currently contains 500 MB, and since I have a very slow broadband transfer rate, I’m perfectly content to wait for the final release.  Like the other VSTEP fans above, I’m grateful to Pjotr and the gang for all their efforts in providing the very welcome improvements to SS2008.

And we shouldn’t be too hard on the people who complained about or reported on the patch bugs because that’s exactly what they were asked to do.  If it’s beneficial to VSTEP, then they’ve served their purpose.  Of course, if VSTEP can make any sense at all out of those bug postings, then VSTEP deserves a great deal more credit than I’ve given them.

Awesome job!!!!!

Just completed the 'Pick up a patient' mission in Force 7 seas and I was fealing queasy such was the realism of the wave motion!  How do they do it?

Look at the resources that Gates has got to turn out Flight Sim and Train Sim (Yucch!) and you've got to take your hat off the VSTEP.

Just working on my wish-list for the next patch ;)

"The more you give 'em, the more they'll want!"

Just started a mission with the tanker (didn't even notice which mission tbh) and looking over the stern rail at the setting sun and the reflection of the sun on the sea, anything more than about 3ft from the screen and you could be forgiven for thinking you were looking at live television.

I am probably about the last to download the patch as I've been away on travels... away from a fast broadband, but it has to be said that this patch brings the sim to a whole new level.

I particularly like how easy to control the Red Eagle has become.

I am going off on Pride of Bilbao in 2 weeks, so i may just have to take this with me on the laptop.

I have not had Ship sim 2008 very long and have only been a forum member for a few weeks but I feel I must congratulate V Step and all the team for a first rate product.
I have used other well known simulators in the past but non of them compare with Ship Sim for the quality and the backup that you get.
Just consider that we get new missions virtually daily! Which other sim provides this sort of extras?
I feel that Ship Sim is very friendly and you are allowed to get personally involved and feel part of the forum, you can ask questions and get answers very quickly straight from the top at times again which other sims give you this?
I am enjoying my Ship Sim 2008 and would like to thank V Step, all the moderators and members for all the interesting features and comments.
Please keep up the great work.  ;)

Regards
Terry

Agree. I downloaded 08 today after spending much time with Ship Sim 06.

Looks like a great improvement. I see V Step have added the ability to connect/disconnect the tow line, and that was my number one wish.

I was looking for a manual, installed update v1.1 and there it is.

I made the mistake of choosing the Red Eagle to first try out, not a good idea if like me you have no idea that it is using a Voith Schneider Propulsion system and never seen one before.

This is looking really great!

Hi

There are a few topics that cover the Red Eagle and how to control/not crash it. Just type red eagle into the search engine and have a quick look through them.

The trick to using the R E is to avoid harsh or sudden control changes. It's quite easy with the 1.1 patch ut was a little odd pre-patch.

Thanks, I see there are some very good posts with screenshots and video clips about running the Red Eagle.

I think I will leave that one alone for now, I'm finding the Pride of Rotterdam and Fairmount Sherpa are keeping me busy at the moment.

I'm really pleased that now I can use a Logitech game controller!

Don't be afraid of the Red Eagle, her handling before the patch had nothing to do with reality, but now she handles a lot better and is very stable. You still have to learn how to deal with all the wheels though, but she's a cool vessel to helm once you know how to master her ;)

As I haven't been back home to download the official patch  :o I haven't had chance to test this... But when steering from the 'rear' helm when going 'reverse' the dials were reversed.

Have they been swapped around so that the 'pod behind' is always the bottom dial on the desk- or is the real 'Eagle like it is in pre-patch.

Does that make any sense? Can't think of a better way to phrase it. ;)
