Hi all,
I thought I'd post a bit of a topic, to let you guys know that I may no longer be around as much as I used to be. I have realised that my career at sea is important, and I am going to dedicate myself to it, as maths is my only weak area - Which I need to work on. This means that unfortunately, I will no longer be around, and by next year, I doubt very much whether or not I will be able to be on at all, except in the weekends, where the server is on, and I have a break.
All in all - It means that I will not have as much time as I used to on this forum, leaving me with enough to maintain and run IJTS.
With the open day at the Nautical College here at Fleetwood - I realised that I need to start dedicating myself more; I can't afford to leave school with grades that I feel I could of bettered myself on. I am also under a lot of pressure at the moment, with GCSE Exams, Having the course at the Nautical college, having extra Maths tuition, and having French after school (as a result of the school not being able to accommodate French in the school day, for whatever reason...).
I feel that I have too many commitments, which I cannot really run so much anymore - and unfortunately, my commitment to my career at sea has to be more important :-\
I have really enjoyed my time here at Ship Sim - However, I feel my 'time' is nearly up, and that I need to focus on my career at sea more. I genuinely will miss it, however, as I said, I will do my best to post now and then, and will most certainly post on IJTS (As normal), and will try and be online at the weekends. However, in the week - I need to try focus on revision, etc.
I hope you all understand - And I really have enjoyed my 2-3 years with Ship Sim, and the community. I will do my best to keep you all updated on the progress I make through my career; Maybe one day I'll sail with MJ! (Ballast).

Kind Regards,
Jack.

Jack, it is going to be very different without you here. I will be one of many who will miss you. I understand that your life career is more important, and I can't say I don't agree with you there. You were the first person to welcome me to this forum, and I'd like to be the first to wave goodbye. You and I have had quite a few memories to look back on, but I'm glad we'll still get to be in contact. Thank you,
Shane
-
Why exactly do you need french? I intentionally failed Spanish because it was a waste of my time when I was in education as I thought it wasn't needed for nautical college.
-
All the best with your studies and endeavours Jack..
Hope to hear from you now and then.. :)
-
Hi Shane,
Thankyou for your kind words...I can remember when you first came to this forum - What a lively character you were! :2thumbs:
Jammy: I don't 'need' it as such...However, it is one subject which I know I need to kick into gear on. As well as knowing that it would possibly be a good bonus to have on my CV. Which I am soon going to start sending to companies to apply for cadetship...
SD: Thanks a lot... :) - You will most certainly hear from me now and then.
Jack.
-
Sorry Jack... Who are you? ;D
Seriously, best of luck. I know you've never lost focus on your future. Not many people can say that!
-
when i've left school i think i'll go http://www.warsashacademy.co.uk/home.aspx (http://www.warsashacademy.co.uk/home.aspx)
-
I hope things go well for you at sea, IrishJack. I may consider after collage or university working on the Great Lakes.
-
Thanks Stu :) - Yes, I did make up my mind, and it's all I really want to do with my life!
Ralphy - It's quite possible I could end up at Warsash, or Glasgow, if the company which gives me cadetship isn't at Fleetwood. I'll keep you all posted on that...Good luck with your career Ralphy.
RMSC: Thanks very much, and all the best for your own career!
Jack.

Hoy Jack,
Study is more importent than this sim.Specialy the study which you like very much.
This will be very importent, the rest of your life.
So i wish you all the best with your study.
We will hear from you again, whenever you find the time.
Marc

The very best of luck to you Jack in your future career. :2thumbs:
-
Best of luck Jack! ;D
-
Good luck Jack!
You're following the same sort of paths that I intend to travel (i.e. Nautical College), so I expect you to do well!
Good luck getting the qualifications you need, and the job you want. And maybe, just maybe, I'll come across you at sea!
We will all miss your regular appearances.

Hi Jack,
I wish you all the very best in your endeavours. If I could do it, I feel sure you can too. I know it sounds like hard graft, but when you get into spherical trigonometry it becomes very exciting, at least it did for me. As you will know, all celestial navigation is done with the use of drawing triangles on the surface of a sphere. There is so much more for you to learn nowadays but it is all very valuable stuff. In March there is an open day for "Careers at sea" here in Birkenhead. It is to take place at the John Moores University Ship Simulation labs. just a short distance from the Entrance to the Birkenhead tunnel.
The very best of luck to you.
Angus.

Marc is right, Jack... But ALL study and no fun is bad too... :o
From what I've heard, when you get to senior officer level you are more an international lawyer than you are a 'boat driver'... :police:
-
Of course, studying what you do for fun is the key to a good career!
-
McG, take it from me- no matter how much you enjoy what you do, you NEED time away from it. Seriously, a small amount of time away from it- in moderation- is not a sign of weakness or lack of dedication.
...Or you'll end up bitter and twisted, like me
Now there's a warning you can't ignore...
-
I'm just saying that unless you like stacking shelves in your spare time, a career working for Tescos is not going to be very fulfilling.
Still, I don't think there are many careers that include skippering and motorsport, but if there was I'd love it. Either one on its own is good enough for me. (except motorsport consists of spending money rather than earning it)
-
I will most likely join the Forsvaret (Norwegian Defend Millitery.)
In a Navy ship.
So behave Jack with your ship or i will get you
-
Hi Jack,
It is good to see that you have your priorities right. I'm sure you will enjoy life at sea.
All the best for the future.

I can understand if one can't be around here due to computer or internet problems, but in your case there can be always found a one little tiny minute at any time in a day/night just to open this forum & say something like "Hey! I remember this place!" or "Hi all!"
-
or "HiJack (always pause between the two words!)- I am here at XYZ marmitime traing college having a whale (and dophin) of a time.
Now that I've found a proper job I can't be bothered with the forum any more.." ::)
Go on then, see if we care. Just leave us all. Do we care? >:( Go, on you traitor...
;)

Same as asking myself "Do I really care?"

Guys, don't be so quick to judge Jack. He's making it his own responsibility to spend more time on his schoolwork, that's for a good cause. Jack's gonna need this later in life, he'll be on later, he just needs to spend more time on other things at the time being. ;)
-
Shane, they're joking... I hope :-S
-
Now I feel like I'm having one of those "Is it made out of Legos?" moments..

At last.... someone spotted it... Someone bothered to read the "good luck...." posts. ;) Well done McG, you get the "I used my brain today" award. Give the man a cigar!
Now I feel like I'm having one of those "Is it made out of Legos?" moments..
Is WHAT made out of lego? If it is called a "lego boat" or a "lego car" for example, it probably is... if it doesn't say lego on the tin, it probably isn't. 8)

;D That's a classic phrase, my friend. I guess I'm next one after you who understands here what you meant. ;)

Better to say: "Congatulations, McG! You won a hovecraft!" - If you know what I mean.
-

Classic, means well known... Clearly it isn't well known so clearly not a classic
-
I know someone who thinks all classical music is from the Harry Potter movies.
-
It's a huge classic, I remember when it was made. ;D
Just like the "Who is it that removes all my posts". ;D
Anyway I strongly feel we should get back on topic.
-
Best of luck IRISHJACK..
I just finished my nautical school (theoretical), only have 5 months to sail as cadet left..
So maybe i'll see you sailing by some day ;)..'
Best wishes, and really hope you enjoy it as much as me :)!

Yep, along with the "Maybe it ran out of gas?" ;D
I still think they're one & the same person, but lets get back to where Jack is leaving the active forum life or something like that.

Hi guys,
Thank you ALL for your really nice comments....Its hard to believe I leave school in a matter of a few months :-X
Hopefully once I've sorted things out I'll be able to come back here more often again, everything is just a little un-settled at the moment...Also, I am taking the foundation route, which means I have to study for another few years to get some extra A Levels, which will give me an edge over other possible cadets...In the long term it means it's better for me.
Once again, thanks everyone...I'll always be lurking around somewhere! - But I just might not be on as regularly, as time is of the essence now!! :captain:

Jack.
-
Well good luck with your studies.
I started my last year and I only can recommend them!
I never was so happy to go to school as I am now.
As well as knowing that it would possibly be a good bonus to have on my CV. Which I am soon going to start sending to companies to apply for cadetship...
Aren't you just going to nautical college?
In Belgium and the Netherlands you can just go to nautical college without working (or studying) for a company.
-
Don't worry Jack, A levels are not all that bad! I'm a year in and whilst there are some hard bits, you get them eventually!
-
If you aspire to senior rank at sea, might I suggest a secretarial course!

Jack, it is all down hill from now on, I'm afraid... Work- the novelty will wear off... (it did for me... but not straight away... I made it 'til lunchtime on my first day)
