Title: What ship to model?
Post by: firestar12 on February 21, 2009, 00:31:52
Hello everyone, it's "that time" again. It is up to you to choose what ship I am going to model in the event that the Wave Commander isn't accepted. Rules include:

 - Blueprints are preferred, in the event that there aren't any, I will model a lookalike.
 - Must be an actual ship, I can't model your fantasy ship that's 700M long.
 - I need reference material (Pictures etc)
 - Lastly, please no catamarans...

It will be up to you guys to decide. I will have voting on this also. In the event that there is a tie or not enough votes, I will choose the vessel myself.

It's up to you to decide, don't make me choose!

How do you get pics to show up

Well, First, they WONT show up from your C:\ drive. Upload them to an image sharing site such as photobucket (www.photobucket.com) then, on photobucket, look for a link called IMG code. Copy that and paste that here!

when posting, go to additional options- attach, then it's allways easier to attach an image that is on your computer..

Firestar,

If you're upto it, I can provide you with info for the Pride of Rotterdam. Of course I have plenty of exterior and interior pics, plus you can find layouts on the web.

It isn't hard to model, if you've mastered the bow. The rest is pretty much square and slab sided.

I have been told by one of my friends that if I dumped one of my projects (Volgo Balt, or SSUS) that I can get a smaller ship (Like a very small vessel) begun and completed, in time for the game, quicker than I could finish one of the projects. Please, I would like to know what ship (boat more like it) I should do, and what project I shoudl drop. If I get no responses, I will make up what project I dump, and what boat I start.

DON'T drop SSUS

Ok, VB1, SSUS0. I want to do the USS Bainbridge.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/06/USS_Bainbridge_tows_the_lifeboat_of_the_Maersk_Alabama.jpg
But since she is a naval ship, that wont happen. And she is too large.

Well...Shane, if you like - Maybe I could help you with Volga Bolt, so you can concentrate on SS United States and your other new project?

Jack :)

Look out if that boat isn't taken in a few days I might just steal it. ;D

I too am on the prowl for a new boat.

Or maybe a nice ship, like the Jumbo Spirit:
It is smaller than the Jumbo Javelin, a whole lot smaller.
Title: Re: What ship to model?
Post by: capn_cal on June 30, 2009, 13:54:54
No, that's too difficult & boring for Shane.

How about the worlds unique ship Ostrea?  She was built in 1980 as a special porpose ship only for doing one specific project. And when the project was done, she was scraped in mid 80's as the she had no job after that.
She had a  П - shaped hul & 4 azipods.
what was she used for?
Title: Re: What ship to model?
Post by: firestar12 on June 30, 2009, 14:52:05
Thanks guys, thanks for the offer Jack, but Volgo Balt gives a lot of trouble, and I don't think that trying to fix her at this point would be very smart. I might use that first boat Diamant. Matt, that boat is almost exactly like the Jumbo Javelin. What are we trying to achieve in this game-variety, so I don't think so. I was almost thinking a classical yacht, or something. I almost went for the Wilhelm Gustloff, but decided against it. Small boats are gold for what I want people! ;D I really like that boat Diamant posted, I might in fact do it, I just wish I had more of something we don't have in the game, that people are dying for! ;D

They have a smaller version too that is the 179 passenger one and there is also a 79 passenger one I can get lots of pics for you  ;) Also there is one my father works on which is a bit boxier, I like the one above more  ;)

Hey Matt did you know that in SS06 there is one of those Ships when you go in Mission Editor or Senario Editor

I think you should Model The USCG BERTHOLF She is the Newest USCG Ship and she is stationed in Alemeda,CA Which is about 20 min. away from me

http://www.uscg.mil/pacarea/cgcBertholf/
This is not a Normal Cutter its Bigger and it holds 2 Blackhawk Helicopters thats how big the hanger is
She is the only one of its class too

Any ship used by the Coast Guard is not a very probable vessel, for obvious reasons.
Title: Re: What ship to model?

Well Vstep made a Coast Guard Cutter and they dont seem to have any problems
Title: Re: What ship to model?
Post by: firestar12 on December 13, 2009, 04:36:17
Well, they're an actual company that makes actual software to train people in the Royal Dutch Navy, they look a little better asking for blueprints and specs than a random person. Also, I don't know if I like that ship. And if we already have a cutter, than why make another?
Title: Re: What ship to model?
Post by: MMMMMM on December 13, 2009, 04:52:41
Well No thats not a Normal Cutter, the one in SSE and Pro is a High endurence Cutter 3XX feet long while that Is a National Security Cutter 418 ft. long and Faster and Twice as Wide

Whoops, I didn't see that!

EDIT: Not so sure about those, maybe I'd do the second one, maybe. I really really like Anfinn's though.

The truth is guys, what I'd really like to do is a tanker or icebreaker, but, we already have a tanker, and in the next SS, I'm not sure if there will be an icebreaker. Besides, Goax is working on one!

Matt, if you're familiar with the add-on creating guidelines, do you know what does the "mission worthy ship" means?

Uh, you read the first post in the topic, right?

Nah, I don't like that vessel. I'm almost surely going to end up doing Anfinn's ship unless someone posts something better.

Well I wont lie, I'm a little upset.

I was going to create an Underway Replenishment Vessel, but I found out VSTEP already has a model for it in one of their simulations...

I'm open to, yet again, more suggestions.

I'm also interested in an offshore platform supply vessel.

Looks very interesting, I'm thinking of doing a passenger vessel.
It's very safe to say that my next vessel will be a cruise ship built for cold areas, probably based off of the MS Explorer, which sank a few years ago.

Are you fooling us (or better to say, ME!) around?   Everytime the requested type of ship appears, you quickly changing mind to another.  :P

BTW, you haven't even viewed the attached pdf's.

Well I have no idea what I want to do, I mean, every vessel lacks some sort of reference, I hate when people post ONE picture and go

I mean, I'd love to do all of the ships people post me but I don't the name of some of these ships and such.

I don't think that CSV will turn out well because in that pdf you have only detailed ship's profile view & plan of hull, without the superstructure's plan.

Here's the better I found - AHTS-icebreaker:

There's been a slight change of plans.
