Although we love mooring or ships alongside, after a mission, and that feeling of contentment! Don't you feel that there is something missing? Yes! that feeling of shutting the engine down. and making the world go silent. On the other end! you also cant beat the sound of cranking that generator up, then opening the water cock up, then opening the air line, then rotating the engine wheel in to the start position, then hearing all those cylinders fire in to life again! This could be quickly emulated in shipsim, with a small patch. Come on boys, make this patch for us all to enjoy. What do you all think?
-
yeah it would be nice to hear it start, like it does in real
-
Am I misunderstanding something here?
All of the vessel engines have an on/off switch. I always switch the engines off at the end of a mission and listen to them power down.
Similalry, when you start them up, they all give a "start-up sound".
Just click on the engine keys, and you'll see the ignition light go off while the sound dies away.
-
Terry, the key is for start up, the button is for shut down. :)
-
I don't think the start up of vermaas is suppose to sound like starting a little boat engine
-
I agree that the sounds should be changed to something more realistic for the vessel. But still, it dose exist.
-

Yeah, yeah. Picky picky. ;D
But the engines DO switch on and off.

Exactly, so it wouldn't be a "New Feature" but maybe just something that could use a bit of cleaning for the next version... Not a dedicated patch just for that. :)
-
I didnt realize there was a toggle switch, instructions are not clear enough. I will test it on sunday, when i get back home. I will be the judge of the realism. As i have cranked a few boats and ships up in my time. BTW! where is the hotkey for engines on/off, bearing mind i am not on my computer at the mo. Though i can look forward to rushing home and using it instantly. :)

It seems that it was Ok for a lot of other people though ;)

Sorry, that job's already gone. ;D
You'll find that many people on this Forum have been crew members, officers and even captains and Chief Engineers of large commercial vessels. Some have been in similar positions on Naval vessles.
Some of us own several smaller pleasure vessels in the Solent (e.g. me - with 28 foot and 36 foot Sunseekers at present). between us, we might have grabbed that job a while ago.

Thank you Austin. ;)

Terry. You are just bragging, cause you own a sunseekers. I am jelous to feck though. My sister lives in Poole. I go visit her twice a year, and see the Sunseekers factory. I just don't have the money for one of them. Maybe one day though.
-
Us folk what live by the sea (I'm in Selsey) have to have a boat or two. It's traditional!
There is a set of videos on YouTue of me and the missus and my son out on the Solent in one of my boats.
-
Engine On/Off is missing from Titanic and Furie for obvious reasons, and its presence probably makes little sense on large ships such as Vermaas, at least on those ships where the Old Man and the Chief are on speaking terms.
A|A, I think Terry’s use of “key†was generic for switch, button, etc.—vis. Telegraph Key. Vermaas, for instance has only buttons.
A lengthy, though lyrical, request for a feature that is visibly present should not necessarily be a cause for embarrassment—it happens occasionally, though usually from those who seldom, if ever, actually use the ships.

Indeed. I wasn't going to go through the actual iconic representation for each vessel in the game.
The fact that the very thing the original poster desired does actually exist was the imperative messge.

what is the 36 foot sunseeker you have?
-
Its a 36 foot Sunseeker.
-
Heh heh. Oh all right.... It's a Tomahawk.
(36.8 ft to be precise)
You can see a similar one here: http://www.sunseekersalesgroup.com/preowned/boatlistings.php?website=sunseeker&webpage=viewspec&pg=2&boat_id=895
Mine has twin 320 hp petrol engines, which give better acceleration and top speed. Fuel tank is larger (250 gallons, I think - perhaps a bit more)
-
outdrives? my dad has got a rapallo 36 with twin 300hp ford sabres on shafts. it was a special order in 1989 bright red it is!!

8) Taking me on a river next summer. :)
-
that boat lift looks um... alien to me!!!hehe
-
Hoping to get an electric lift sometime in the next few years, but that lift works just fine. The boat is heavy enough where it will splash right down, it is just lifting it up that takes a while. But it gets removed every year so it survives the storm. The dock also comes apart so it doesn't get hammered. I don't know where they are storing the boat in the winter.
-
is it a manual winder???? most boats here stay in the water over winter but some owners choose to take their boats out in winter
-
Yeah see the big blue wheel I get to spin...
And my uncle takes it out because that lake gets frozen... Plus they get lots of snow and winds...

-
oh. what do you think to my video?
-
weird yet hilariously dumb..
-
we were bored and there are others that i just havent posted! that kid that i landed on wont do it anymore we tried it a while ago but we couldnt convince him!
-
All of this has what to do with an engine toggle icon?
-
It went off topic, right....about.........here:
what is the 36 foot sunseeker you have?
-
At least my Sunseekers have engines and on/off toggles (ignition switches). The majority of the following posts don't seem to have any relevance...
-
All of the vessel engines have an on/off switch. I always switch the engines off at the end of a mission and listen to them power down.
Not Titanic! ;D
-
Already been said. No need to repeat things...
-
I posted a pic of the ignition on my uncles boat....
-
Nathan! Just to bring you back in to the topic! That ship, that you have as your picture! The Pride Of Hull! appears to have a lot of windage potential. I bet she rolls like a pig, in heavy weather?

6500 Square Meters of Port/Starboard side isn't easy to sail in a 30kn wind, correct, but the ship has two fin stabilsers each side, which prevent a lot of roll. Haven't been on the ship in bad weather, so i can't really speak for that, but i can't imagine it rolling very much, unless the sea state really is terrible.

And I'd already said that it had already been said.... So, can we take it as said? Please say so.
-
i couldnt click the qoute button because your post wasnt there so i qouted it myself and i was just saying that titanic doesnt have an engine stop switch had already been said
