Although we love mooring or ships alongside, after a mission, and that feeling of contentment! Don't you feel that there is something missing? Yes! that feeling of shutting the engine down. and making the world go silent. On the other end! you also cant beat the sound of cranking that generator up, then opening the water cock up, then opening the air line, then rotating the engine wheel in to the start position, then hearing all those cylinders fire in to life again! This could be quickly emulated in shipsim, with a small patch. Come on boys, make this patch for us all to enjoy. What do you all think?

Am I misunderstanding something here?

All of the vessel engines have an on/off switch. I always switch the engines off at the end of a mission and listen to them power down.

Similalry, when you start them up, they all give a "start-up sound".

Just click on the engine keys, and you'll see the ignition light go off while the sound dies away.

I don't think the start up of vermaas is suppose to sound like starting a little boat engine

I agree that the sounds should be changed to something more realistic for the vessel. But still, it dose exist.

Exactly, so it wouldn't be a "New Feature" but maybe just something that could use a bit of cleaning for the next version... Not a dedicated patch just for that.

I didnt realize there was a toggle switch, instructions are not clear enough. I will test it on sunday, when i get back home. I will be the judge of the realism. As i have cranked a few boats and ships up in my time. BTW! where is the hotkey for engines on/off, bearing mind i am not on my computer at the mo. Though i can look forward to rushing home and using it instantly.

You'll find that many people on this Forum have been crew members, officers and even captains and Chief Engineers of large commercial vessels. Some have been in similar positions on Naval vessles.

Some of us own several smaller pleasure vessels in the Solent (e.g. me - with 28 foot and 36 foot Sunseekers at present). between us, we might have grabbed that job a while ago.

Engine On/Off is missing from Titanic and Furie for obvious reasons, and its presence probably makes little sense on large ships such as Vermaas, at least on those ships where the Old Man and the Chief are on speaking terms.

A lengthy, though lyrical, request for a feature that is visibly present should not necessarily be a cause for embarrassmentâ€”it happens occasionally, though usually from those who seldom, if ever, actually use the ships.

Indeed. I wasn't going to go through the actual iconic representation for each vessel in the game.

Mine has twin 320 hp petrol engines, which give better acceleration and top speed. Fuel tank is larger (250 gallons, I think - perhaps a bit more)

Hoping to get an electric lift sometime in the next few years, but that lift works just fine. The boat is heavy enough where it will splash right down, it is just lifting it up that takes a while. But it gets removed every year so it survives the storm. The dock also comes apart so it doesn't get hammered. I don't know where they are storing the boat in the winter.

most boats here stay in the water over winter but some owners choose to take their boats out in winter
