Looks great!!
-
It says summer 2009, does that mean we will get it summer 09? That looks awesome, I'm not going to wait a second to buy that game, when it comes out
-
I'll defintely be buying this when it's released. Glad they've kept some of the SS2008 ships in - or are they just in for testing at the moment?
-
yes I agree it's good if they keep some of the SS08 ships, as long as they wont spare on new ships
-

More or less all vessels are under reconstruction according to their dynamics to fit into the next version. Guess, there are some more ships, but the well known too.. ;)
-
Hmmmm... I was hoping for a little more of a graphics improvment. Oh well, still looks cool!
-
I like that you can see under water, maby they will add a submarine
-
I like that you can see under water, maby they will add a submarine
Somehow i don't believe that is part of the game, looks more like a fancy introduction to me :P
You never know, though..
-
Yeah that might be, but I would like to see the bottom of the ships I sail
-
That looks brilliant. Cant wait for antartic and Sydney! I really hope the QM2 is in this year!
-
I really hope the QM2 is in this year!
Unfortunately, i doubt it. QM2 will cost VSTEP lots to put in the game, and we'll have lots of moaners pointing out inaccuracies. VSTEP can create there own cruise ship for less hassle too :-\

Yeah, If im honest I very much doubt QM2 will be in there too. I would just love to see another cruise liner or ocean liner in the game
-
No new waves!? Not better grafic!? :o
:xmasangry:
-
Hold on a minute - Aren't they the White Cliffs of Dover at 00:18!? I'm excited..
No new waves!? Not better grafic!? :o
:xmasangry:
Those waves definetly look improved to me..
-
mabye ::)
-
Yeah those waves look brilliant actually.
And it really does look live the white cliffs of dover at 00:18, Oh how I would love that.... :)
-
Hmmm......Well, maybe the fact that the Antarctic is there means that, its a possability that there may be an ice breaker?
Either way, It will mean we'll have to be watching where we are going...*Scary Music comes on*...MWAHAHAH....
:D ;D Looks great, I just hope my system will take it, until I get my new computer, which will probably be next Christmas, possably before, depends on what happens really.
Love the new graphics! Can't wait ;D
Jack.
-
I can't wait to see the new SS2010!! ;D
-
I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade here, but one thing which I really want to know is whether my PC will be able to run SS2010......
If SS2010 needs more CPU juice to run then I'm afraid I might have to give it a miss - I won't cough up for a new processor upgrade as I really only use my PC for internet, emails, word processing etc. SS2006 & SS2008 are the only main heavy-duty games that I play on my PC.
-
Kevin
I suspect that many of us will be disappointed!!
Mike
-
Minor point here but would OS fit under that bridge?
Looks great well done VSTEP
-
Looking closely, i think it would.
-
Why did you just make a copy of the post in News & Announcements.. I don't understand why we need two topics...
-
Who, me?
-
Why did you just make a copy of the post in News & Announcements.. I don't understand why we need two topics...
Because here we cab discuss it. I have already decided to buy a new computer, before SS10 comes out
-
I suspect that many of us will be disappointed!!
Hi Mike,
Yeah that's what worries me. My PC has Intel E6400 Core 2 Duo CPU, but apparently Questviewer can only 'see' one processor.... :(
-
Which is a shame, maybe ss10 will have support for more? Does ss08 pro support extra cores?
-
I believe SS10 will be powered by a custom game engine, not Questviewer..
Thats what I saw along time ago on the forum.. Though things change..
-
this looks like a good game
i will definetly buy it 8)
but when i was watching the trailer
i thought i was watching a Tim Burton movie ;)
(the music, usually Danny Elfman)
-
The waves looks like SS08... ???
-
Well, it isn't the pro version... ;)
-
:'(
-
The waves look much better than SS2008. I don't think you're looking hard enough :-\
-
Hmmm......Well, maybe the fact that the Antarctic is there means that, its a possability that there may be an ice breaker?
Well, isn't the Esperanza from greenpeace a icebreaker?
Just look at the blue ship in the beginning, that allready is a icebreaker :P
-
I know that the Esperanza is a 'heavy ice class' vessel, but if that's the same as an icebreaker, I don't know.
She can operate in polar regions, that's for sure.
-
Search for "Ice Class" on Wikipedia, and you are redirected to "Icebreaker". Guess she's an Icebreaker then..
-
Works for me! ;D
-
Well, you can see, if you look close, that here hull is made to break ice.

Just look at the bow.
But, if you look at the website of greenpeace, you can see that it is a fire fighting vessel :P
http://www.greenpeace.org/international/about/ships/the-esperanza (http://www.greenpeace.org/international/about/ships/the-esperanza)
-
I think the Ship is an Ex-Firefighting Vessel and is now used as a Survey/Research Ship ;)
-
I think the Ship is an Ex-Firefighting Vessel and is now used as a Survey/Research Ship ;)
Wel, yes offcourse :P
But she was originally designd for that purpose.
I think greenpeace doesn't need a fire fighting vessel ;D
-

Maybe to put out all the fires they cause by ramming other ships??
-
Maybe to put out all the fires they cause by ramming other ships??
Haha, lol.
Or maybe they want to take revenge against everybody who ever pointed a waterhose at them ;D
(http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/files/images/oceans/whaling/RIBstopsrefuelling.jpg)
But I think where getting a little bit off topic now.

Wanna play rough..? Get a load of this guy..

ah we got him arrested once in Faroe Islands
-
The research vessel will turn out funny!
"You are to survey the wreck of Titanic."
"Yes, sir!"
*Out on the job*
*Titanic passes by*
"...."
-
Maybe to put out all the fires they cause by ramming other ships??
I can imagine alot of ramming going on on SS10 MP with the greenpeace boat..
-
Are you saying everyone will try to destroy anything to do with greenpeace? are they hated that much? Well the answer to both those is, yes! :D
-
My new monster computer I am getting for christmas will be eating my old computer and will have no problem running Ship Simulator 2010 ;D. I am soooooooooooooo getting Ship Simulator 2010, just like I got Ship Simulator 2006 and Ship Simulator 2008 :).
-
Are you saying everyone will try to destroy anything to do with greenpeace? are they hated that much? Well the answer to both those is, yes! :D
In that case, I may take the Greenpeace vessel onto the MP servers....
They're generally only hated by the owners of vessels that flout the various UN mandates as to what is permissible on the oceans. And by greedy fishermen currently exterinating one species of fish/cetaceous mamal or another. And owners of vessels carrying cargoes prohibited under internationally agreed protocols.
-
I hope that the ships come with more lights in the night and i hope the titanic will be there
-
Titanic will be in, don't worry.
It's pretty much a constant in all the Ship Sim games ;D
-
You know this how? :police:
-
I can imagine alot of ramming going on on SS10 MP with the greenpeace boat..
  lol...yeah same here ;D
-
You know this how? :police:
Because Jason De Donno probably would have said "Hey, Vstep just drapped me and my model!" or something along those lines if suddenly his model was no longer going to be in Ship Sim ;D
-
But people within and around the developement team cannot just go and divulge information. Beta material and early stages are not spread around or talked about like that. Even if he'd de dropped, he'd have to wait untill the news is brought out there by VSTEP, before he can talk about it, unless he gets permission. It's in bad form to go and tell the public things that the developer does not want to share with the public yet.
-
Can we please drop the Titanic ::)
I'd like the developers to spend time on something we all would like. I really don't want Titanic in SS10, just to avoid the hundreds of topics we'll probably get..
-

Nathan
I fully agree with you, this forum seems totally fixated on Titanic!! If it was dropped in SS10 people could think of more intersting topics to post on!!
Mike
-
Its got to the point were if i never read another titanic post
i will be happy :-X
-
Of course, Titanic being dropped will also lead to a lack of public interest and a size those who own the game to face dissapointment.
A number of members here alone would probably turn away from the series completely!
I know that even with all these new features, if Titanic was dropped from SS10, I would not buy it, nor would I buy any future Ship Sim game without her inclusion.
-
Are you saying everyone will try to destroy anything to do with greenpeace? are they hated that much? Well the answer to both those is, yes! :D
Oh please, can't you take a joke?
I don't hate greenpeace.
But I do think a lot of their actions bring human lives in danger and I am not talking about ramming other ships.
-

I can take a joke, Your joke was funny, my reply was another joke. You say a joke, I say one back, thats how it works ;)
-
Really good trailer. Hopefully this is the stage where VSTEP have realised that teasing is a good thing (as opposed to revealing lots of information, and then disappointing).
Australia, Dover and Antarctica look great, and I'd love to see a new tug or two (ASD). :)

A lack of Public Interest is a small price to pay for Titanic to be removed.
Of course that was a joke.
-
Why should titanic go? Its the most famous liner ever, if it goes public interest will decrease and therefore Vstep may not get enough money to produce another game. Besides, its a good ship to play.
-
Titanic is only the "most famous liner" because it sank. I've said that before. Only a few people can play the Titanic because it requires such a good graphics card, and the development time should only really be spent on things we all would like.
-
I know shes only famous because she sank but shes still famous so she should still be in the game. And if only some people can actually play titanic, can you?

Correct as usual

Hi Mike,
Have you ever wondered what all those Titanic fanatics actually do with her in the sim?
There are very few missions being written for her, except for the ones we routinely reject because they consist only of one or more Titanics and one or more icebergs.
Their principal activity seems to be talking about her on this forum. They don’t need her in the sim in order to do that.
Have a good Christmas Mike.
Regards,
Marty
-
Can we please drop the Titanic ::)
That will make a loud "thud".
But that would be drowned out by the cheering of those of us who really don't care abut this rotting piece of steel.
Now, let's talk about something more exciting...
How about the jetski?
-

I fully agree with you, there are only a couple of people who support this ill fated ship, must be fans of Leonardo di Caprio!! They make so much noise between them that dropping the ship would be a relief to all.
After all if you look for realism in a simulator you can sail the ship from Southampton into the Atlantic and that it is, the ship in any other environment is pointless.
Happy Christmas to you too.
Mike
-
i would not miss the Titanic at all. i would have imagined it as a novelty in SS06 and then it got stuck with the game and there is also nothing to do with it except sail it into a iceberg
-
Lest you think that I am totally anti-Titanic:
About a year ago, I wrote a rather long—4.5 hour—mission that attempted to use her in a reasonable way—going to NY rather than Phi Phi.
The mission spanned five environments and was entirely about carefully navigating the ship in various situations, a demanding task that left no time for walking about counting rivets.
So far as I know, not one of the vocal fans has completed it, or even made an attempt to do so. There is little to suggest that their interest in her extends to actual navigation.
Nor, to my knowledge, have they produced any meaningful missions for her.
She may be included in SS 2010 simply because she is available—she is in the latest Pro beta even though there is probably no money to be made training officers for her—but expending effort on additional eye candy is probably not going to happen.
Perhaps, instead of including her, she should be offered for sale in the Shipyard. That way, those who really want her can put their money where their mouths are, and those who don’t care won’t be penalized by reduced performance, or delayed release.
-
i agree, it should be a shipyard item, i mean i love Titanic, but shes just a burden to try and sail most of the time, good idea ;)
-
I agree that the Titanic should be offered as a Shipyard item instead of including her in SS2010.
I have only played Titanic no more than a few times in SS2008 because there are other vessels which are more interesting and fun. I probably have played Titanic more often in SS2006 than I did in SS2008, due to the novelty value.
To me, Titanic really belongs in the Southampton and the Atlantic Ocean. It was nice to sail her into New York in SS2008 on a "what if" scenario had she didn't hit the iceberg on that fateful night. To see her somewhere else such as Phi Phi or Rotterdam looks a bit odd & so out of place.
Have a good Christmas everyone! :D
-
Its quite a hard thing to deal with, going from game to game. I'm hoping the Sherpa will be included in the next version. But I'm not going to get my hopes up. One thing I will say is that, me and Nathan were actually talking yesterday about certain vessel's that aren't used. For example:
The harbour tug-I haven't seen one about for quite a while now, and if you notice, POTM for example, I haven't seen a picture of her on there yet.
Vermaas-Sad to say, I've noticed the number of Vermaas users has decreased very sharply. One time the Vermaas used to be "The thing" on the servers (Especially those Marseille days)
Latitude-Again, very sad to say, I haven't seen a Latitude in a long time. Whether this is due to the fact that she is not being included in custom servers-I'm not sure.
Titanic-Delicate issue....I haven't seen a Titanic on multiplayer in a very long time. Although, I do know there are Titanic fanatics....but at the same time, I'm a tug fanatic, so, it wouldn't be fair to take away what a few people like, it would be like V-STEP removing all tugs from the game...I wouldn't be best pleased (Putting it nicely ) Also, to some people, Titanic may be the reason why they buy the game. As with any vessel in the game.
And there's a few more too.
So, what should V-STEP do, remove vessel's that aren't used.....How about remove almost all the vessels, and start a fresh? Or, should V-STEP keep all the vessels, and add new ones on. Big decision, possably a make or break.
Just my opinion.
Jack.
-
well said maybe bring back the royal yacht and start a fresh with SS10
-
Well I like the Titanic (don't like the amount of threads on here going on about the most inane details that are apparently wrong about her), and I personally don't want to see any ships get dumped. I love the little tug as much as the Bugsier 2, and because of that, the game would be rubbish to me without some large ships (Vermaas, Latitude) to tow. That's what will effect my buying decision when it gets released (amount of tugs and tows). All they need is what is currently in 2008, and they have a sale. :)
-
I hate the movie, but love the ship!
The times I deliberately sink her is rare. The views are much more exciting to me 8)
But seriously, If they ever dropped Titanic, I would be off Ship Sim until she returned.
-
I couldnt agree with you more Jayshum and Gigantic
-
why would you not buy SS10 just because Titanic is not in it? they are not going to take SS08 off you, you can still play that
-
Now that's a frightning concept! Imagine if Vstep came round and took back Ship Simulator 2008 because you'd bought 2010.
A bit like Microsoft coming round and taking back your XP disks if you bought Vista! :o
-
it would be scary and quite funny at the same time hearing about it
-
I could imagine if you dropped Titanic in one SS, you would go back to MP on the previous version and see everyone there in a Titanic ;D
-
Will the elbe and furie be in 2010 ship sim? (pardon me if its already been posted, not in a reading mood today ;D)
-
I saw the teaster, looks like SS08.
-
I saw the teaster, looks like SS08.
That probably means that your computer is not capable of making it look like 2010.
-
I guess no one is interested in the Bora Bora environment. I doubt that I’m divulging any secret, since it is shown in the teaser. Once you have seen it from a ship, it’s hard to forget.
-
Never heard of Bora Bora.
-
Never heard of Bora Bora.
I’m not surprised, as it is probably not mentioned on the TRMA site. But then, I never heard of an actual RMS Gigantic.
Bora Bora is one of the better known tropical South Pacific islands in French Polynesia—WNW of Tahiti.
The main island sits in a beautiful lagoon surrounded by coral reefs.
It’s a favorite R and R stop for Oceanographic Research Vessels.

Thank you for that information. As for RMS Gigantic, that was the name that was originally going to be used for the HMHS Britannic.

A name bandied about by Pirie and Ismay over brandy. After they sobered up, they realized what a ridiculous name it was.

Seen one tropical paradise, you've seen 'em all, I suppose.
-

Not even close. After Titanic sank, it seemed a taboo to name more ships after races in Greek mythology. As a result, they changed the name "RMS Gigantic" to "RMS Britannic," then World War I broke out, and the still under construction ship got called in as a hospital ship, changing her ship prefix from Royal Mail Steamer to His Majesty's Hospital Ship, that being from RMS to HMHS. The end result was HMHS Britannic.
-
I just hope, that in SS10, there will be no more missions where you have to control 2 or more ships at the same time. That's just very unrealistic and annoying, in my opinion.
-

You should try doing some research instead of relying on myths. Long before slipway 1 under the Arrol gantry was free for the third keel, the decision was made that “Gigantic†was a ridiculous name. Shipyard workers would sometimes refer to that hull as Gigantic, but only in a joking way.
An overzealous PR man put out a brochure on the planned ships, calling the third one RMS Gigantic. The rather caustic comments from the public on that name helped spur the change.
-
Documents for ordering the ship's anchor referred to the ship as Gigantic, No. 433, right up to a few months before the ship's launch, indicating the name was being used during construction.
http://titanic-model.com/articles/gigantic/index.shtml (http://titanic-model.com/articles/gigantic/index.shtml)
It appeareth that THOU needst to preform more research!
-
Shipyard workers would sometimes refer to that hull as Gigantic, but only in a joking way.
And you need to read posts more carefully.
Even today, in such organizations as NASA, it is not unusual to give informal names to major assemblies rather than refer to them by numbers that can be many digits long and are vulnerable to transposition or other errors.
The “Gigantic†notation in red would indicate that someone at Hingleys did just that.
The appearance of “Gigantic†in the LNWR correspondence would follow from the colloquial use of “Gigantic†by Hingleys, and is not independent proof of anything.
The very article you cite indicates, by the paucity of references to “Gigantic†among the voluminous H&W documents, that “Gigantic†was never an official name for that hull.
If you come down on Christmas morning an find that someone has taken a bite out of one of the cookies you left, that is hardly irrefutable proof of the existence of Santa Claus.

Doesn't work for false teeth.

hehe, nope it don't! ;D

Keep it on topic..

The topic is about, and I quote:
things to come ..
Both the Tooth Fairy and false teeth are yet to come (for me).
I love it when a plan comes together...

are you an a team fan terry? ;D

What's one of them?

TerryRussell is Mr T, but that doesn't make hime an A-Team Follower

should be Mr M- Mr Marmite! :D
-
Oh, I see.
No, I used to watch it back in the dark past. It always had the same plot: Some fool with stupid problem. Figure ridculous ways to get BA and Face to the location (run adverts). A-Team find baddies. They win the first skirmish (more adverts). A-Team get whipped by re-grouped baddies (more adverts), A-Team plan "strategy" and win the fight. Stupid comments at the end with forced laughter. Millions of bullets flying, but never any injuries.
I thought it was about the most stupid program ever. Batman was better. At least Adam West meant to be funny.
Anyway, back to the topic.... err, what was it again?
-
Somehting about SS2010?! ;D
-
Oh yes, the other fiction. (no-one outside of a select few know what will be in it, and even those people aren't absolutely certain yet).
-
That was the only nice thing about A-team, no one ever got hurt..
Otherwise a good series to fall asleep by.. ;D
-

Back in the days that was culture! Mr T is now in some freaking home shopping commercial on tv, trying to sell the 'flavor wave'. Now i cant watch the A-team anymore, without thinking about the commercial. :'(

Anyone agrees with me?..
Yes true, it looks unrealistic. It would be more realistic if, for example, an AI pilot boat or SAR vessel would come along side, instead of the player who was to sail with both vessels.
But how should they solve the problem then for the towing missions?

Nice avatar! I'm from Groningen too!
Back to topic... There are towing missions where you use 1 ship. Just look at the second mission, the Arie Visser one in Phi Phi..
-

It may be unrealistic, but I think its interesting and can be a bit of a challenge, lovely!

Hi all,
I for one Love the new teaser trailer and am very excited at the forthcoming release. Those new wave models are great and I just hope they are included in the game not just the "Pro" version. The randomness and the new light reflecting details are superb and obviously the fact that the wave heights are greater is a real bonus, especially to a storm junkie like me.
I couldn't really see by the short trailer but it would be nice to have more intense bow splashes/spray. Powering through storm waves in strong winds is sometimes let down a bit by the lack of spray as the bow hits a wave or trough, but hey i'm not complaining, just hinting.I love the game and spend hours cruising around, sometimes to the point of sea sickness. You guys deserve credit for a truly wonderful experience.Thank you.
One more little thing, is it possible that approprate ships can be made to look a little more worn, rust, flaking paint etc some of these ships have a hard life after all . I'm sure If I owned these vessels they definately wouldn't look like I they had a repaint everytime they arrived back in port.
Keep up the good work folks, I'm off on another World cruise thanks to ShipSim !
