This was the downside of Cairo. The damage after the riots against Mubarak is still clearly visible.

A few of the many shipwrecks in Alexandria. Nobody bothered to salvage them. There is actually a wreck in the middle of the fairway. Instead of salvaging it, they just re-routed the fairway

Yeah. When we visited the piramides, it was all good but about a week when we were in Alexandria all hell broke loose again. We were strongly advised to stay on the ship.

This was also quite.... interesting..   Approaching Dardanelles with wind and current against us, about 4 knts, and the VTS asked us to speed up to 10 knts.. It was pretty shameful to tell over the VHF that we were already steaming on full ahead

I have to admit when I took over the bridgewatch for the first time, I also asked why we sailed on reduced speed... After a while you just learn to live, and navigate, with it. It's really something to get used to, when you are used of speeds of +15 knots.

You travel around the world...

In a boat... that can travel what 10 knots?

It must take you YEARS to get anywhere!

3 weeks to cross the Atlantic...depending on how many hurricanes you have to dodge

Before all the containerships and reefers set the new standard of 20+ knts, this was actually a pretty decent speed  :P
