I was wondering about SS08 and since there is damage, I want to know if weather can effect the look of your ship for instance: a giant wave hits your container ship and some cargo falls off or if you make a sharp turn, it all goes to one side etc, etc, etc.
-
Not for 2008, I'm afraid. That's a heck of a lot extra work.
-
i was wondering what kind of damage there will be? ex: the bow crunches, glass breaks, etc. KM
-
Probably scrapes and dents.
-
yea i guess. KM
-
Scrapes, dents, holes, malfunctions, sinking...
-
So it's actually possible to lose a ship when youre bumping into everything??
-
yes, i pmed wout, and he said thats the plan to have ships sink, when they hit something. KM
-
HA HA no more wreckless piloting
-
It would be perfect if they made it in the way that if you hit something with a small force. And that youre ship has not much damage but youre making water, that you can try to make it to drydocks ore something for repair. But that the ship keeps making water and that it can sink before you made it. And that if you hit something with more force that the ship will sink faster.
-
I would love to get dry docking abilities and such. Piloting the ship into the dry dock and raising her out of the water. WOW that would be fun.
If we got to where we took on some water, would we be able to stop a leak? That is a good feture on Battlestations Midway - if you take on too much, the ship sinks. However, as she takes on water she lists and her draught increases. It is really a challenge.

I would really love it when a ship could sink.. I really want the experience to be on a sinking ship... I really hope they will add it :D

Sinking? Cool :o
-
Sinking? Cool :o
What's so cool about sining things?
-
It's cool that when you take damage you realy sink! In 2006 you could go on a rampage trought the harbor without getting hurt. With 2008 you can put that totally out of your mind!
-
The sinking adds to the realism, by showing damage, etc. KM
-
In mission 5 I capsized the freighter... twice and then turned it the right way up after being hit again by a tiny boat.
It then ran slow speed with a heavy list before sinking again.
10 out 10 for appearance. Shame that the small boat went away ok but sunk the big freighter so easily.

sounds like that wus fun ;D ;D

I know it adds to the realism but it's not a great idea sinking it deliberarely. That's my opinion though.

I can understand your concern. However, to each will play it to their own accord. I do like the realism, added in the sinking, however. And to be honest, I will do some deliberate sinking for seeing how realistic it is.

I'll try it aswell but only to see. Not when i'm in a mission.

Of course, that is your right. :D

A few years back I saw P&O Aquitane (now with LD lines) smack the berth at Calais. Her CPP (controllable pitch prop) actuator failed and was skewing the ship (the bridge didn't realise what was happening until too late as the bridge repeated display wasn't working)
The ship was damaged, but only brilliant helmsmanship by the Captain avoided a much more serious accident.
I wonder if sS08 would be sophisticated enough to have a go at trying to bring a 32000 ton ship to the berth with one engine stuck in reverse. Would make a great mission. And to anyone who fails... well, you get to see your sinking.
Stu
-
sounds like a good mission idea. and when ur making ur own missions u can make a ship be at full speed once the mission starts up(or any other speed, or even reverse)
-
the sinking will be a big + point of 08, who don't want to sink with the titanic?
or better, sink the huge cruise ship ;D
-
I just gonna do free sail ore however there gonna call it. And just see how the ships sink. Maybe different ways and different damage everytime. And when that gets boring I'll start playing :D
-
What's so cool about sining things?
Well I think it would be cool to be on a sinking ship though.. having the experience of sinking! I would like that ;D ;)

Well I've already seen the titanic sinking for a few times but it would be still awesome... espacially with the cruse ship ;D
-
sinking the cruise ship will be fun.(not in an fun evil way)
-
When I sank the freighter in mission 5 it moved from the bridge view to external only. A sinking view from the bridge would be interesting...
I think we would all agree that any comments of sinking models of real ships should be handled sensetively...
Incidentally, on youtube there is an animated 3d model of the Estonia sinking. Worth watching.
Stu
-
I watched that. is was cool
-
Cool?
One way of putting it... Still, the reconstruction was very impressive.
BTW. Did you know of the story that it was carrying weapons for someone (Sweden?) and this is the reason for the ALLEDGED encasing in concrete. Odd.

You sank the frighter in mission 5? In ss06??
-
Where you have to move the freighter from one point to the other. was that not number 5? I don't know its not installed on this computer
-
Moving the freighter in New York - there is a shallow bank in a rather strategic position and the unwary skipper runs along the edge of this bank and cpasizes the ship. Rather scary when you have not paid attention to the chart and it takes you completely by surprise.
I see the fun in damaging ships but the whole idea of taking a ship to sea is to arrive at the other end in one piece - does creating damage not use up a load of processing power for something that should rarely happen?

Should not, but the reality of the situation is that it does happen and that is the mission of a simulation - to replicate reality in as many forms as the technology allows.
-
Well I'm just looking foreward to sink with some ships ;D
And ofcourse the sailing. But sinking would be fun ;D

ha ha Thassos, it appears we are the majority.
Well, this is an example of how the game will be appealing to more than one audience variety. HA HA!
ENJOY it when it comes out.
-
I know I will, it will appeal to the more destructive croud around games like Gears Of War
(but thats on the xbox360 so I guess they'll have 2 buy a computer! lol ;D ;D)

I found a veido of a sinking ship. ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gCs3H8tN4s&mode=related&search=

oh ya. The Sea Diamond, didn't she hit a Reef in Greece and took untill the next day to sink. I think people should explore her and take photos

You're right.
-
Greetings,
It all depence how deep she is now,to have a save dive, you can go only to minus 40 meters.I believe she is below that level.
But maybe if you go to Santorini, you can have a go.

Marc

Id take submersiables. If that is how you spell it. ;)

Greetings,
Maybe a little over my budjet, that's a quite expensive alternative.Dont you think ??

Marc
P.S.you can also write S.U.V.
-
Maby there would be a rent a Sub place. :D
-
I think they should get to her now before she gets like the Andrea Doria or some other shipwreck
(but I know a few months can't do that much damadge).
But I think she might be diveable. if not, small robotic subs
(like the ones they used to explore the Titanic)
shuold be used to get photos or wut ever else inside her is worth anything
