The human race WILL die out at some point. It MAY be 2012. It may be 27/11/09 or it may be 2123 AM (After Marmite)... Who knows.

Anyone that predicts such things based solely on astronomical observations from ancient civilisations is totally mad. I started this topic and I'm really glad to see so many people on the side of objective reasoning. Congratulations; you aren't a bunch of halfwits after all  ;D

Look on the bright side, TFM...

They say the biggest threat to life is yellowstone park volcano (cheers America) but it's likely that the landslide in the canaries will kill us off first. ALTHOUGH the Canaries landslide might not actually get us... if a meteorite beats it to us. A meteorite might not be the end of us though, if a mutant virus finishes us of first.

So, each doomsday scenario can be beaten with another such scenario...

That's odd. Why wouldn't you believe that. There IS a astroid coming. But the chances of it actually entering the earth's atmosphere and not bursting into flames is like 1/1000000 I think.

Thanks for that convincing hypothesis Professor Austin. I speak not for any other person, but I will sleep easier at night knowing you think the chances of a collision are, like, 1/1000000 (give or take a few zeros)

The end of the world is nigh. At least if it does wipe out the human race we won't have to listen to any more doom-merchants predicting the end of the world. Who thought up this damned topic anyway?

I'm sure that those geniuses at Hollywood will manage to make a film about it beforehand- something where the mission is facing certain doom, but one brave, heroic American gives his life so that others may live... :sleepy: :sleepy: :sleepy: Hey, Professor Austin- what are you doing 13/4/29?

I was reading some interesting facts about this... NASA, believes it can launch a mission to destroy or move any asteroid before it becomes a danger- a little less gun-ho than Hollywood would have you believe.

I know that the world may mock Hollywood for its 'America- the saviour of the world' attitude, but those chaps at Nasa (funded by America but using brains from all around the world, incidentally) are actually quite clever people.

ANY organisation that can take the technology of another country (Germany) and pass it off as their own to the whole world and then, through clever PR, makes the whole world forget this, is pretty impressive in my book.

Next they'll have people believe they invented the car and light bulb. ::)

I have just read something that states a fact that Magnetic North (For you pilots out there) is moving in the direction of Russia at 40 Miles Per Year. This indicates that Magnetic North and South may flip again in the near future.

To most people this seems unthinkable but! not only has this happened 5 or 6 times before in the history of the planet Every time it has happened before events surrounding it have been catastrophic!!!
