This building is named Docklands. It's an amazing construction and you are allowed to climb up the building whenever you want!!! There is a great oberservation platform at the top of the building and you can see the river Elbe, the huge container terminals, the famous Köhlbrand-Bridge, the dock yard of Blohm + Voss and much more from there. If you ever come to Hamburg, use the harbour ferry line 62, disembark at the station Docklands and climb up the outer stairs! A few meters up the river (to the East) you can see the former England-Terminal, used by DFDS-Seaways (Scandinavian Seaways) for several years with it's Harwich ferries. This area should be converted into a cruise liner terminal some times.

Maybe I should create a harbour-trip-mission throughout my homeport? ::)

And here is my announced mission. It's pretty simple, just a guided harbour trip along a frequent used ferry line. Don't wait for surprising events, this one is only for those, who want to learn a little bit about Hamburg. And it is of course a small selection of interesting locations... ;)

The regular ferry (with 11.5 knots) needs one and a half hour for the whole roundtrip. That's why I have chosen RED JET 4.

Michael,
I have just run your mission. In 50 minutes I have learned more about your great seaport of Hamburg than I would in months of study. You really should post the mission on the "missions" thread, it is, in my humble opinion, one of the nicest and most informative missions yet. It should be regarded as a must for all players. It is many, many years since I last visited Hamburg when I was at sea. In the 1950s, at a point lower down the river, on the north bank, there was always a band which played the National Anthem of the country of each ship which passed on it's way upriver. I think the band was stationed in the grounds of an inn or a pub. I should not think this still occurs as I am talking about 50 years ago. Anyway, Michael, thanks once again for a delightful 50 minute trip.

Thank you for the flowers! Well, the welcome point at the border of Hamburg is still there, but now the so called Willkomm Höft is playing CD's or MP3-files instead. But every upcoming vessel still get's that very special service - and every leaving vessel too. Unfortunately this point is roundabout 10 miles down the river from the games end of the Hamburg environment. I'll post that one into the missions thread.

Best regards

The "Willkomm Hoft" is obviously now a very long standing tradition. How nice that the welcome to ships is still taking place in this day of rushing around at high speed all the time.

if all buildings looked like that it would be a boring world... the architect was experimental... i quite like the design... daring, modern, sleek :p
