That's the one i found first when i googled "R/C Tug"

I considered that, it's either that tug or the lifeboat SO FAR.

Don't think either are brilliant, the r/c controls are rather poor by all accounts, reviews on here http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/

Yes, read my post on the first page, you don't want to have anything like that, the factory made stuff never comes with good RC equipment, you'll find the lifeboat and that plastic tug will only have a very short signal range, and, they won't be good on the water, i've seen RC boats like that sink Nathan....you are better off with something like what i or Bottman has. The kits can be good but really, your better off buying a second hand ready made model from a proper RC boating club, especially if your a beginner.

Oops - sorry hadn't seen that one. I have the Carlson and the Southampton (Wyeforce) - Carlson very basic, I started with my own colour scheme but never finished it. It sails well but is rather light and catches the wind easily. The Southampton needs nothing doing to it out of the box - I bought larger power packs for longer sailing time. It's also very light but does tow quite well. Only problem is I haven't had time to sail them for over a year

Hi Nathan. I'm an avid model-boater, I'm a member of the Wirral Model Boat Club. I have 3 Tugs, and that Lifeboat you linked to (it's awful, avoid!).

My advice to you is, if you haven't the time/will/patience to build one yourself, get the Southampton (Wyeforce). It's one of the finest model tugs I've ever seen, especially as it's RTR. Save up more money for her, and get a larger battery pack as the one that comes with it only last 30 minutes or so. Like Quaysider above me, I've had no time to sail in the past year (it's one of the reasons I bought the game!), but I plan to get into it soon. Please take my advice which is, save up a bit more money for the Southampton.

Beautiful model, plenty of room for adding more detail to her as well (mine's been repainted into SMIT colours, haven't decided on a name yet though). Her only downside is, she has a large turning circle. Even though she's twin-screw, you can't control each prop separately, so I bought a cheap 4-channel Radio to enable just that. I also plan to add lights to mine as well, as there's tons of space inside the super-structure for it. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll have the time to do all that, not for another 5-6 months atleast. Once it's done though, I'll be sure to make a thread on here with fresh pictures.

Yes, that one. Over budget, but only by £40-50 quid. Really worth it though.

Forgot to mention the other tug (the Japanese looking one). It's awful, a real toy.

Yes, that was my point on page one, I am also an RC boater and i am based at Fleetwood Model Yacht And Powerboat Club. (Not currently living in Ireland) and i have two tugs, i'm getting the "Englishman" tugboat kit in a few days, it will give me something to do during the bad weather, and i am also considering the Aziz (Anchor handling tug/supply vessel)

considering its summer its doing a lot of raining.....

Kits are always more expensive than buying second hand, but i don't plan to sell the Aziz or Englishman once complete, then after that, i'll probably purchase Maggie M. (Trawler)

Thanks for the advice everyone. I like the look of the Southampton tug, nice quality, and its possible to save up that.

Yes, the Southampton tug isn't bad Nathan, i'll take a look now and see what comes with it, and i can tell you the goods points and bad. I've also seen other people with them, and you can pick them up quite easily, especially second hand.

But, its always nice to go new, since you know somebody hasn't been playing around with it before you buy it. I like to see things before i buy them, thats the only problem with the internet, sometimes things lok better than they actually seem, but i can tell you, that tug isn't bad at all, especially for a beginner, Nathan.

We can talk about it on MSN when you sort your computer if you like?

EDIT: Just taken a look at it Nathan, it seems fine, BUT my main concerns are this:

It does not state what radio gear comes with it. However, i would imagine it would be quite good.

And, the battery it comes with won't last long, i think about 1 hour running time, the 12 volt battery's i have are lead acid, which roughly run for about 24-48 hours. But, again, this is ideal for a beginner.

But, don't rush into anything, check it all out first, Nathan.
