P&O Ferries
« on: August 08, 2008, 10:11:13 »

Today P&O Ferries have released confirmation that they are replacing the 1987 built Pride of Dover and Pride of Calais.  The new ships will be entering service in 2010 and 2011.

Further information and artists impression is available by clicking here (http://www.poferriesenthusiasts.co.uk/fleet/newbuilding/index.html)

That looks interesting. They were in need of replacement in my opinion though, since i live in Germany the drive back to England is very tiring, and you just can't get comfortable on those ferries, they are too rattly and old. So we now use Rotterdam-Hull.

Are the new ferries going to keep the same names?

hi guys ,
Follow this look at this  cool website for info  both the ships and their fleetmates.
in Google type in Doverferryphotos.com. Also, Nathen, I live in dover and see the twins almost every day. I don't think their old and rattaly, old maybe but they are the most sucssecful short sea ferries in the world and are the most comftable ships on the route. No other ships can replace them, but it would be sad to see them go. below are some interesting pics of them

Ok, But there is no longer a point in keeping on posting in his topic. Just because you have already started it up once doesn't mean its Ok to continue. You dont even have to say sorry. Your way of saying sorry can be by not posting in here anymore. Its always good to check the dates of topics and if its more than like a week, You shouldn't post.

Just a quick addition to the information relating to the two new ships.  The first keel laying is due in September 2009 with delivery and entry into service before December 2010.  Amazing that they can build these things in such a short space of time, but I guess most of it is like lego these days.  Hoping to get over to see them being built in Finland.  Reference the names, nothing has been confirmed as of this week.

The old Pride of Dover and Calais are definetly the most successful ships ever built for the Dover to Calais service and sadly are beginning to show their age onboard.  Whilst at sea they are still very comfortable sea keepers and can still cross pier to pier in 65 minutes!.  However when manuvering around port then yes they rattle, shake something terrible towards the stern.  From talking to the bridge crews, they mechanically and manuverablity wise are really showing their age and can no longer move around like they used to.

The new ferries are apparently 210m long, making them bigger than the Pride of Bruges/York of the Overnight North Sea route, and similiar in size to the Pride of Hull/Rotterdam....

What happens to the crew of the old ship when something like this happens? Are they transferred to the new ship?

Generally speaking the crew from an old ship will be transferred to a new one, or absorbed within existing ships when crew are selected for a new one.

How can a topic titled “P&O Ferries” be an old topic that should not be updated? Are you suggesting that a new topic be started every time there was news about P&O Ferries? Forum rules should be applied with some intelligence.

I would/will download any ferry that makes it into the Shipyard, especially one from P&O  ;)
