Not wanting to open up a new topic etc regarding this and then have the potential to go over old ground, I felt it was better to add to this discussion. I am trying to get more info from P&O for VSTEP but it is slow going.
However.
I have just come back from the Pride of Hull (incidently she had an engine room fire this morning off Spurn Point just before 5am. Everything was over quickly and no major concerns. Got woken up by the bridge announcing a Code Red Alert and that it was not a drill!!).
Anyway, was talking to the Second Officer and one of the tests he performs every day to make sure the rudders and the pumps attached are working correctly is as follows:
One Pump Per Rudder (Max Two Pumps)
0 degrees to 40 degrees port (max angle) - 15 seconds movement time
40 degrees port to 40 degress starboard (max to max) - 30 seconds movement time
40 degrees starboard to 0 degrees - 15 seconds movement time
Two Pumps Per Rudder
0 degrees to 40 degrees port (max angle) - 7.5 seconds movement time
40 degrees port to 40 degress starboard (max to max) - 15 seconds movement time
40 degrees starboard to 0 degrees - 7.5 seconds movement time
These times do not alter irrespective of the ships speed through the water etc.
All the best
Paul
