another one?  >:(

With the greatest of respect to our European friends here and elsewhere, it is really time that we extracted ourselves from this disgraceful excuse for a superstate.

I find it very hard indeed to believe that the average French/Belgian/Dutch/ etc etc person is any happier at their proud histories and traditions being desacrated and destroyed by un-elected neo-stalinist-reactioneries who have as much intent and ability of governing a superstate as I have of walking barefoot to the moon.

I bet Osama bin laden is distraught that his plan to sink a historic pleasure ship has been thwarted.

Thank God though that the EU has sorted our bananas for us. Metric of course

Well as much as I agree with you... it does say that it was also done to comply with UK shipping requirements. So without the EU interfering, it could have still be a mandatory measure.  :)

This is the site of this EU agency (http://www.emsa.europa.eu/end173.html) (one of so many) that publishes papers that will become EU ruling.
Mr Willem de Ruiter (not an Englishman?) is the Executive Director of the thing, and the origin of evrything is written in English only... where does it come from? Who put these guys -specialists of maritime affairs- where they are? This kind of bureaucracy is bound to develop itself, for itself, by itself.
Please don't try to give the paternity too quickly, and think about where they looked for a model. Look West, not East.

I have heard, from an unimpeachable source at our Department of Homeland Security that upon receiving intelligence from the CIA, the DHS  alerted the EU of a plot to load Waverley with fertilizer, sail her up the Thames, and detonate her adjacent to the Houses of Parliament.
The mission was originally scheduled for 5 November last year.
Marty

And Stu, before you ask a silly question like “Why was MI5 not alerted instead?”:
The CIA talks only to MI6.
The FBI talks to MI5.
The CIA does not talk to the FBI.

Contemptable humour. We have enough real plots against us due to our unfortunate choice of allies on ilegal wars, thanks.

I think you will find that the above is actually totally incorrect. There will be a 4 way exchange of information. I don't think the FBI/CIA comparison of roles is exactly the same as the MI5/MI6- but I would have to admit to not being privvy to the internal workings of each department of our 'allies'.

Anyway, according to the documentary 'Johnny English' (a true life documentary of British secret services, with Rowan Atkinson as an agent) it is MI7 1/2 that is overall in charge.

If you would like to research our secret services a bit, please visit www.mi5.gov.uk and www.mi6.gov.uk I assume I can find your CIA/FBI and www.letsgostartawar.com

Luc

I don't understand your meaning in your post. I hope you don't think I'm having a go at Europe- far from it. Many European countries are having a problem with EU rulings, just as much as we are.

I hope you would know by now that I am not anti-European, just because of the EU.

No one can ever call be discriminatory- I hate everyone  ;D

Hi Stu,

Actually, you think that these measures on the Waverley have been ordered by the EU because you see the "EC directive 725/2004". But don't forget that that directive is the application in Europe of the ISPS code voted by the IMO. This code is international and as the Great Britain voted for it, either you belong to Europe or not you will have to comply with it.

I work in the road transport industry and having seen the latest wave of ridiculous dictats by the EU now nothing surprises me.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the powers of another part of the world are bankrolling certain people in the EU just to make our part of the world so weak that they can take more of it over...

Sounds far fetched?

Remember the Soviet Union bank rolling the striking British Unions in the 70s/80s?

It may seem like a game to most people, safe in their school/ 9-5 office job. But when you have to go out and 'fight' for customers, you realise how the Asian economies are managing to overtake European/America so easily.

Sound far fetched also? Look how many businesses are being sold to Asia. (This is *NOT* a dig at Asia- we can't blame them for haing the balls that we've lost) You may think it doesn't matter to 'us' we're safe... Look how the worldwide economy is turning... The EU and US are so s-l-o-w to adapt that we really risk being in the same antiquated state that USSR/China/Asia was in the 80s.

Before I end this rant... remember that while EU (and sadly as a result, GB) and US are out sourcing much production work to the far east... when the economy finally goes **** up... It will be the lazy, under productive EU/US that falls flat on its face.

Hi Stu,

I really don't want to offend you at all, but what is the link between your post and the topic, and my post?

Yes, sorry. I mean to point out that the EU (not on this case, maybe, but generally) is hampering businesses so much that things are starting to get a bit silly...

And then everyone acts so indignant when the rest of the world overtakes us in productivity.

The biggest fans of the EU? China, India, Korea, America... need I go on?
