I can't say! It depends on my current moods. And where are the "real" all open areas within your poll? Btw - I don't like them, but they are great for quick dynamic tests with the vessels. No more, no less..

I suppose that it depends on the mood but also the ships that the environment actually has to go with it. Some ships are better suited for certain types of environments though.

I voted a mixture of both, as I love crashing into waves but also like a challenge of navigating on inland waters.

I like to be able to wonder around the harbour, but when i feel like it i like to go out to sea, so i voted for a mixture of both for that reason. (That reason will defently be backed up when the new add-on comes e.g. the north/northern star, thats the sort of boat thats designed to go out to sea and bring in its catch, so then it will be a definate mixture, so thats my kind of boat!)

A mixture of both got my vote, I like to be in the open(Phi Phi Islands probably) when i'm bored to wake me up, then when i've just had a little snack i feel like being enclosed in Hamburg maybe.
