Power of Nature - part 1
« on: June 28, 2007, 16:48:53 »

Hello fellows,

I'll attach some pictures which I received from a friend of mine who's working in a shipping company.

It's quite impressive how weak steal is in contrast to the strong nature.

Just enjoy the pictures and be happy that you were not on this vessel.

Whew!  Seems as though all it takes is a couple of weak boxes!  I've come across them floating at sea before, but the locks seem to have held fine here.

Cheers,

Well, all I know is, that the ship was hit by a storm from the port quarter (= the sea was coming from the aft) and that some huge waves hit it very strong. I can imagine, that the ship begin to roll and in a bad moment it was hit by a wave while it was listing.
Obviously, it's pretty interesting to see how strong the twistlocks had been because most of the boxes are still on board. But in the port where these broken boxes were discharged I guess it wasn't an easy job to get them from board.

Yeah, to take them apart required, I'm sure, some serious torch and heavy crane work.  But as I said, I'm impressed by the strength of the locks!

Where did you find the pics?

Cheers,
Michael
