Hi Dave, Hi crew..

Pascal got in touch with me recently. I sent him all of the photoshop textures that I have produced for this model. All of the work is done. Both of us have been under excessive workloads and as such the project died just before completion.

It would be pointless for anyone else to have to start from scratch with this, just give one of us a shout if you still think that this vessel would serve a purpose.

Mike :)

Hello,
Yes, you can.
I will find out for you,who started this project, and ask that he send you all his info over to you.
Also it has to get completed to get it in the game.
However the specifications for that;you have to ask to Vstep.
Also be aware that you have to ask permision to the company first, before it can go into the game, when you build it as an exact copy of the real vessel(which has been done sofar).
You can always contact me ,if you need extra info.

Hello. The reason why this project died is that Pascal changed jobs and got extremely busy with his change of career.  He was working on the modelling, I did the texture mapping.

It had nothing to do with the new forum. Just timing and commitments.

I spent too many hours on this project, I would LOVE to see this boat in the game. If anyone wants to take the reigns of this project, please drop me a line for the files.

Mike :)

Thank you, much appreciated. So many hours spent on the artwork only to have it fall by the way side.

I too hope someone with the modelling skills can continue the project.

WOW, that looks fantastic! :o

I'd personally love to see that in the game, a Fast Ferry is what Ship Sim Lacks

So I'm all for seeing it in the game! (Even though I probably wouldn't use it often myself, it would be something different and nice to see whilst on my rounds with the Sherpa  ;D)

In case anyone wants to take over this. As far as I know, what is still required is the internal bridge layout. I'm not sure how much if any Pascal did. One of the last things I did on this project was collect photos of the bridge.

What is exactly involved in building the bridge is beyond me. I am a Photoshop person, I know very little about modelling in 3Dmax and absolutely nothing about what is required to submit this Pitor at Vstep.

Hello guy's,
Yes, i agree, this project would be very nice in the game!
Think about the bridge,is one case, however you also need to find the dynamics of the vessel to,to fit in to the model,if you want to sail the ship.
That's the hard bit!
Marc

P.S.you also need to have permission of that shipping-company to,unless you change a bit on the model

is it fully made after the V-STEP guidelines?

That's the doozey.. I have the mesh and my artwork, but what now?

This game would explode in popularity if it was made open to the community.

Sadly, it remains closed.

I realise that VSTEP have a more business related attitude, which is good, but that attitude keeps this great game unexpandable to the masses.

Heya Mike,

Well.. it is open, in a way, and even better than with some sims, cause the developers themselves will back addon makers up and help out when someone comes with a good product, unlike other sims, where quality greatly suffers from too open a structure and an abundance of 3D modelers with no real knowledge about what makes ships float, planes fly, cars drive, etc etc, resulting in beautiful, but unrealistically behaving vehicles/vessels..., well at leat in my humble opinion...

So people can make ships for this game if they wish, and indeed, VSTEP encourages people to do so.. but the community has to first manage to make a ship according to the guidelines, before VSTEP can use it.. that's obvious....But if/when they do, they have a really good chance to get their ships in the game.

And most of the stuff that needs doing to make the model according to the guidelines, is wel documenten in numerous tutorials all over the net. But it takes time to learn much of these skills, plus you need the right software too of course, which not everyone might have.

But it takes that software, knowledge and skill first, to be able to do that.. after that is all done, vstep will do the other hard part, implementing it..

People that make addons for other serious simulators also have to figure a lot of that stuff out, and there it's also a lot more than just a mesh and nice textures, to make a decent addon.

It's just hard work, and takes some skills that can be learned if one so desires and has that kind of time. That's pretty much 'all that is to it'..   :P

Having said that, I too have no idea how to proceed with my models after modeling and a bit of texturing...  ;D

Regards,
Fred

Hi chaps.

I think that the direction that Vstep has taken has shown itself to be absolutely correct.

Although it means that it is extremely demanding, and most users can't get past the base requirements, we have been spared the bug-ridden, half-hearted, unfinished and unplayable dross that plagues most other simulators and games.

How many of the projects that people start in this area ever make it, even if only into the low requirements of VS? ("Almost none, Terry", is the correct answer).

You might also note that user accessible simulators such as Train Simulator, Train Simulator 2, Train Siumlator 2a, Flight Simulator etc are all dead, defunct, no more.

That's simply not true. Given an open community, many great models emerge. Admittedly, quite a few bad ones appear too, but given the enormous choice on 'fan sites' of sims, you at least have the luxury of picking and choosing.

From my own point of view, I enjoy reskinning existing models, not for any commercial purposes, simply for my own enjoyment. As a professional Photoshop user, I actually enjoy the reskinning more than using the models a lot of the time.

You might also note that user accessible simulators such as Train Simulator, Train Simulator 2, Train Siumlator 2a, Flight Simulator etc are all dead, defunct, no more.

You are obviously not a Flight Sim fan. There is still a thriving community out there.

I hear what you are saying about quality, I quite agree. But from my own point of view, it would be nice to have access to certain parts of the models, especially the image maps. As already mentioned, I'd love to work on the textures of some of the ships, surely you agree that most of them look too new and shiny considering the corrosive environment in which they work?

I'm not a sound specialist, but the 'radio chatter' sound that I produced was included in a SS06 update, it would be nice to be able to edit these sounds, again for ones own use, without having to submit them for inclusion into updates.

I'm not asking for full open source access to the program, just the ability to create things on a personal level. Imagine installing your favorite OS and only being able to use their selected desktop wallpapers.

ShipSim is a brilliant program to which I keep returning and this is just me rambling.

:D

Hi, but if everyone could repaint it it wouldn't be a simulator, it's for accuracy, not enjoyment. However, I see what you are saying.

PS, there are a few vessels you can repaint, the P6, small buoy, and I think the sailing yacht.

As far as accuracy goes, I'd like to see rust and grime! :D What do you mean by "not enjoyment" ?? are you being punished to play this game?

Yes, I did the P6 in SS06.. made my own Port of Dover livery.

Wouldn't you like see better textures on the big tanker? (it looks far too shiny to be a work horse)

I definitely agree with you there, it looks like it just came from the builders. Hopefully VSTEP'll see that in SSEx.

Very nice livery, I like it. :)

I know that if I were ever to make something for the sim, I would absolutely put rust and grime on the hull, this model for example did a great job of that:

(Note rust near bow)

Good attempt.. the reds might need to be reduced a little (more towards the brown end of the spectrum) to prevent it looking like raw chopped liver has been poured out of the fairleads.   ;D

But we agree that models need to be produced that look more serviced.

There were several parts of the UV map on the P6 that couldn't be modified.

That's strange, considering that I was told that all of the areas of the ship...ALL..need to be mapped. What does this mean then?
