ASD Tug Simulator
« on: April 08, 2020, 06:35:07 »

Im looking forward to the ship simulator but im mostly interested in is ASD tugs due to the increased maneuverability and close in operations. On top of this, there are a lot of crew members who train up to skipper's position and would benefit greatly from this sort of sim at home before they get to the professional sims that are quite common now in the tug industry.

Heres my list of suggestions for a top sim.

Never mind digital readouts, an analogue dial gives you more info thats easier to grasp at a glance.
Analogue dial for azimuth thruster direction.
Analogue dial for thruster rpm.
Trackir support in the wheelhouse/bridge etc.
Effects of tide, ships propulsion, ships hull moving through water. Bow usually pushes off and stern can suck tug in and under the quarter.
Hardware peripherals to suit. Combi levers.

Ill appreciate comments and other suggestions on this subject.
Thanks everyone.

Hi
I agree, for those who, at the first experiences, have an excellent idea before moving on to the real professional simulator, not like some of us who do it profession years ago, they immediately put us on the vehicle to gain direct experience, without going through the various simulators, my first experiences, Conventional tugs, a ducted axle with variable pitch, over time I went with Voith, Tractor and the current ASD, I would say excellent vehicles, but my favorite is Voith.

Hi Cob, i havent worked on a Voith tug or line boat but ive been seen a couple in different locations. To me they look like they have a lot of torque, highly manoeuvrable but wont break any speed records.

Hi Kurtus
It is true, Voith are means that must have high torque and power for their use, they are also used as an Escort Voith Water Tractors function, and it is also true that they are not the best at speed but they defend well I would say personally I have a good handle in maneuver, the evolutions you can do with a Voith, you don't do them with an ASD, unless you have Rotor Tug.
Greetings and good work.

I would really like to see the ability to control the amount of line you have out. The last ship sim didn't have this and it was really annoying having to disconnect and reconnect to the ship in order to take in the line.

This was also annoying when trying to tow barges as you couldn't shorten up the tow wire and would have to disconnect and reconnect.

Would also be cool to see some conventional tugs as well.

good morning friends, of course it would be the best to be able to control the winch to be able to manage the shot during the towing phase, in the previous one to be able to shorten or lengthen, you were forced to disconnect and connect, very annoying, but we must also consider that it is not a real simulator  , I hope they solve this annoying defect, we rely on the designers to make the new simulator successful.  Greetings and good wind to all.

Yep it'd be a lot better to lengthen or shorten up whilst still attached and i cant see why not unless its due to the team behind this sim being quite small but if thats so then they should be able to introduce that feature at a later date with a patch.

hello, in the real simulator, there is the command for the winch, I believe that at the software level it is a little more complicated, I trust in the professionalism of the designers, hopefully well.

Hi All,
In this topic : ASD AZIPOD - Transverse arrest & clutch mod
http://forum.shipsim.com/index.php/topic,31627.msg404663.html#msg404663
 - in the sections : Ship Simulator Extremes > Community Development > Unofficial Patches

LucAtC was so kind to modify ASD tug Cratus hydrodynamics,  the bridge controls , indicators and interior in more useful and realistic direction:
neutral position of the Azipods to 90 degrees  inside
thrust drag effect
clutch engage effect
above view of the thrust-direction and rpm  controls and indicators
please, look at his improvements and give your comments.

For full happiness I would like the thrust and rpm controls to be: on screen- movable with eye view, bigger and transparent, fore/aft direction-reversible.
