New Red Funnel ferry to be built at Birkenhead.
« on: June 11, 2018, 10:52:11 »

I was very pleased to hear the news that Camell Laird at Birkenhead is building a new ferry for Red Funnel. she is to be called "Red Kestrel". I have only been able to find a small picture of her but obviously quite a departure from the design of the current fleet. After many years in the doldrums, Camell Laird has become a great shipbuilder once more. The new Royal Research Ship "Sir David Attenborough" is also to be built there.
Great news after the rotten behaviour of Costa Line refusing delivery of the already built new mid section for one of their cruise ships. This just about bankrupted the builders, so it is good to see that the Company has recovered so well. Ship building on the Mersey is not dead yet!!!!!

I found some more, and better, pictures of "Red Kestrel". It looks as if she is driven by two azipods, one for'd and one aft.
