Decommissioning of TS Royalist
« on: November 25, 2014, 11:54:53 »

TS Royalist, the flag ship of the Sea Cadets has been decommisioned after over 40 years in commission. She was the last British Tall ship and has taken over 30,000 sea cadets on it since 1971. I was lucky enough to be on the ship a few years back and it was one of the best things I have ever done!   :2thumbs:

Has anyone else been on Royalist here? And if you have what are your memories?

Yep, sailed on her as a kid and then did a couple of weeks as an adult as the relief engineer onboard.

Very fond memories, sad to see her go, but all things must come to an end.

Wee you any chance on TS John Jerwood as relief engineer?
I also went on royalist and its one of the highlights of my time at sea cadets! It one of the things on my personal statment for Uni!
I was part of the fundraising for the new vessel and the new vessels has been launched (and it floats) and if time allows me I will be going on the new vessel before I'm 18 when Im staff ( it's in May so I got only 4 slots before I'm too old  :'()

Yes, a few times, from Glasgow to Whitehaven, Penzance to Gosport and Gosport to Gosport a few times.

Some images of the new Royalist:

She looks a lot like the old vessel but is slightly bigger as the old vessel was crammed a bit!
