New to this and confused
« on: July 25, 2013, 07:51:50 »

Hi, Just bought Ship Simulator Extremes from here in Australia via a local WWW store.
I find out now that I require an internet connection to "Steam" in order to get it going.
As the computer I use for various games (FSX, Crysis etc) is not connected to the internet, can a non-steam version be purchased that might suit my needs.
I can always download updates and hopefully transfer them to the game by USB.
But anyway, is there a non-Steam version about?
Thanks

Hi again,
Sadsid, unfortunately there seems to be no sales link in your post, just a rather nice picture !!
But I gather that this site does indeed sell a non-steam version...so I'll try and see what occurs...
But thanks anyway...

Thanks all for your replies.

I have been told by the folks I bought the "Steam" version from that ALL versions require an internet connection !!
They mentioned that the internet connection is "vital" in order to download "DLC" whatever that/they are, and the game will not function unless/until this is done?
What on earth are DLC's?
I've had no trouble getting various TruckSims to work plus other Simulation software with no WWW connection.
Am I being paranoid about this?

It's just that this other shop said it won't make any difference which software version I use, the game will require an internet connected computer to at least get this game "up and running."
Thanks..

I think you may have been misinformed. It is perfectly possible to play SSE without an internet connection with the 'regular' VStep boxed edition.
(Steam requires an internet connection because all Steam games do.)

However, without an internet connection there would be restrictions:
You would not be able to play in Multiplayer
Not able to directly download and apply updates
You would not be able to download certain missions, nor download DLC's

DLC's are DownLoadable Content, such as extra ships etc.  Nice, but not necessary.

Many of us are eagerly awaiting (for some time now ;) ) an update of SSE.
I don't really know if it would be possible to download this (or other updates) via an E-mail link onto a USB-stick or DVD to transfer later onto your other computer.  Perhaps someone else can tell you more about this

Anyway, you can buy the 'regular' boxed version of SSE here:

Glad to help, Tracy.  Happy sailing..  ;)

ps: if you have the Steam game on your computer, it might be a good idea to Uninstall it first before installing the
'regular' version, just to avoid any possible conflicts..

Yes, do install the Steam game first, this game is too big to be moving stuff around fixing it.

Um...Install Steam first? (Reagan C. Reese)  or:
       Uninstall it first? (saltydog)
Which one please.
I have actually uninstalled the Steam Version and sent back the DVD and did a system restore to before the Steam install.
I hope  Reagan C. Reese had his "un" missing from his "install" !!!
Oh please tell me he had !!
I otherwise will have to get that Steam version back and reinstall it again.
Thanks,
Tracy

Hi Tracy,

Ignore what Reagan is saying/said. As long as you have UN-installed your steam version before you install your regular SSE then you'll be fine! It wouldn't have mattered if you hadn't uninstalled the steam version anyway - Steam and non-steam versions of the game don't conflict.

Yes, everything should be ok now.
I advised to uninstall the Steam game first just to be on the safe side..
Keep us up to date how the installing of the 'regular' game goes  ;)
