Computer Questions...
« on: June 03, 2013, 23:49:22 »

Hey everybody, I've really been looking at getting a new PC lately and I want to ask you guys a question.

I have a decent gaming PC, and a nowhere near decent laptop. I do like to game when I travel or on car/train rides. Should I get a better desktop or a gaming laptop? My budget is around 1200 US dollars.
I'm not looking for a specific PC model, just an answer to the question above.

Thanks! :)

Why would you need another desktop PC when you already have a decent one? So you can carry it around on your back?  :P
Getting a better desktop than you already have is like switching from an iPhone 4S to an iPhone 5 because the latest is again 200x faster, has 300 new applications, etc.  ::)

I have a decent gaming PC and for school I have a HP Pavilion which is good for school. But for moving a lot around like I do, I use my iPad as its faster than my PC, so,entires better graphics due to its retina display and I can do work on it! And its got a good battery life. Go for the 64 gb version if you going to have a lot of games though - fils up easly!

Why would you wamt another desktop computer?! You already have one...

I would suggest going for a decent laptop (but NOT alienware), although I'd hold out until the new Intel Haswell cores are shipping in laptops.

Alienware is very powerfull. But only for what is it, half an hour on battery?
And I believe they are generally more expensive. (correct me if I'm wrong)

For $1200,- you can get a beast of a laptop, but more of a beast of a computer.
Perhaps what you could do, is spend around 800 on the laptop (you can get very nice laptops for that money) and the other 400 on upgrading your desktop hardware if necessary. 8GB of (extra)RAM costs about $50 currently? and a very good GPU card can be found for around $300,-

Why would you waste money on a macbook for gaming!? Infact, why would you waste money on a macbook, period?

@Dex
I don't know of any websites which allow you to custom build gaming laptops, but MSI & acer (of all companies) are supposed to be pretty good at gaming.

You can't custom laptops due to the way the circuit board is built

Yes you can create custom built Laptops. And the prices are relatively the same compared to standard laptops.
A friend of mine got is laptop built not too long ago. He can play quite some games on it and also spent about the same amount of money on it.

Rather than editing that post for the 10,000th time. I'm gonna make a new post
So this is what I'm getting:
GPU: EVGA GTX 660 Superclocked 2 GB
RAM: http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=301AC5E7A5CA7304

I still want to make sure that the GPU is compatible with the MotherBoard (ASUS M4N68T-M V2)
It's my first time "building a PC" the one I have now came with the parts in it (my sig)

Hi dexter7,
The GPU you mention (Nvidia GTX 660 superclocked) is indeed compatible with the motherboard you specify.
I have exactly that configuration and it works perfectly with SSE.
