Sinking.

Is there any way you can change the info on the titanic so it sinks bow first and takes longer than it already does?

Paddy,
I’m sorry to bring bad news to a fellow P-Celt, but the various constants controlling ship behavior are not exposed in the way they are in, say, Trainz. We are dependent upon VSTEP to get those things right. One problem is that that there is often disagreement over what “right” is.

We might wish that that we had the ability to tinker—a la Trainz—via an editable text file, but there are a few good reasons why VSTEP has decided against it. Those have been discussed elsewhere, but a good one is that missions often depend upon known behavior, and may fail for players who have modified their ships.

The Mission Editor lets you sink Titanic in different ways and observe her from another vessel.
Also, if you want to see a ship go down by the bow, try Lattitude. You can watch her in the Disaster near Bergen mission after the third rescue. (If the mission works for you) Many have reported difficulty, but if you’ve installed the 1.1 patch over a fresh installation of SS08 (not over the RC), it should be OK.

As with the discussion about the handling characteristics of the ships, the factors which control how ships sink are enormous and would require huge amounts of resources to model accurately.

The ships I work on at present for instance are designed to sink upright no matter what (in as much as any ship is  designed to sink :D

The way a ship does settle on her way to the bottom will depend on where she is holed, the internal design, which watertight doors have been left open, how she is ballasted, what speed she was making, etc.

Of course the Titanic was unsinkable (Harland and Wolffe said so - it must be true!)

I read a ton of facts 'bout titanic.

Correction:Harlande & wolffe manager,"This ship is virtually unsinkable." later on,they forgot the word virtually
