Don't be scared to post we don't bite! ;)

But I do!  ;D

Caledonian MacBrayne ferries are on top of my wish-list. Great variety of ferries and most of them have served on a variety of routes as well.

I voted "other" because companies like SNCM, Corsica ferries and Trasmediterranea are in this list. I would like to see some ferries of these companies.

Under the "Other" column I would have to go with:

   1. Alaska Marine Highway Ferry system.
   2. B.C. Ferries.
   3. Washington State Ferry System.

In that order.

I voted for Color Line because they've got so many beautiful ferries, but i'd also like an adriatic ferry - for example one of superfast, anek or minoan...

How about the worlds largest car ferry. The MV Ulysses. Travels Hollyhead Dublin. The side thrust is 4 times as much as its main engines.

Hi Dustybin,

could you explain that a bit? As far as I know, the mentioned vessel has three bow and one stern thruster, each 2,400 kW, but four main engines too, each 7,800 kW! That makes a difference of 21,600 kW!?! And there are a few ferries longer and larger, with more passengers and more freight capacity! Guess you have seen Irish Ferries commercial some where?

Cheers and merry Easter...

Hi Dustybin,

Quote

Just for challenge I looked for larger ferries than M/V Ulysses and I found "M/V Moby Tommy"...  :D

"Moby Tommy"??? The good old "Ariadne"/"Ariadne Palace"??? She is far away from any other mentioned vessel. With GT 28,007 she will not meet the largest 30 ferries in the world. Top scorer today: "Color Magic" with GT 75,027!!! The same in any other category.. ;)

Cheers

Ok,
I actually just had a quick look at the length, no other parameters. I think M/V Ulysses is about 208m length, The M/V Moby Tommy 212m ans sure the Color Magic 224m. I didn't look at the tonnage.
You are right for sure Bottman!

Hi all,
It was on the Discovery Channel programme Megaships. I think you'll find that she is classed as the largest RoRo because she has bow and stern doors and the longest amount of lane length. The side thrusters are powerful enought to push her sideways into force eight gale winds and either pull her of the berth in Hollyhead or Dublin. No matter what the weather stormy or calm she still does the crossing in 3 hours and 15 minutes.

Or is this another Lepricon story?

Okay, Dustybin,

you are right in one point - the bow and stern access. But the largest by lanemeter are the new Finnlines vessels and the re-built STENA BRITANNICA, the largest by cars is our sim-ferry PRIDE OF ROTTERDAM (and PRIDE OF HULL resp.).. ;)

In my job I travel a lot by ferry. Between Ireland and the UK, Uk and France,Spain,Holland and Belguim and also Italy to Greece. The ferries there may not be the biggest, but the fastest conventional ferry. Superfast, Anak, Minoan and Blue Star and full of luxury for the 19 hour crossing from Ancona to Patra and the 36 hour crossing from Venice to Patra via Corfu and Iginamitsa(cant spell this one properly itd Greek). Top speed in the range of 30 to 40 knots. and not a roll from them.
Has anybody heard what sort of price the new addon is going to be and what are the eight ships we're allegedly getting and also why Padstow, used to go there for cream teas and ice cream.
Dustybin
PS Still would like to see a friendly warship or two ( no USNS as they like friendly fire)

Dustybin,

Can't we have a discussion in here without resorting to attacking certain countries.  The beauty of an international group like this is that we try to transcend national borders.  BTW USNS vessels are Merchant Marine Ships that support Navy operations they are crewed entirely by civilian mechant sailors.  They are not combat ships.  USS is the designator for U.S. warships.  While it would be nice to see some coast guard type vessels in here, I am one that would stand against having warships in the game.  My reason is quite simple.  Having spent four years of my life in a combat zone, directly engaged on many occasions, i see no reason to purposefully replicate vessels that exist for no other reason than to destroy human life.  Guys, I apologize for sliding off topic.  I will leave it at that.

Hi Kevin,
Sorry you took offense at my little dig. I have spent a lot of time in the States when I was in the Real Navy and it was the same then when we exercised with your navy just a little bit of friendly fun.
If USS is the designated prefix for your Navy, then why is it that on the gangway awning do they put USNS. I think you'll find that in the states merchant ships use USS as well and to show the difference the military have changed there prefix.
Anyway this is ferries and warships, I shouldn't have btrought it up.
