I was wondering if you would make ship sim for windows 7 cause some people have windows 7 and not windows xp and the other one???

Ship Simulator Extremes can be played on Windows 7 as it is a supporting Operating System and Ship Sim 08 and Ship Sim 06 can work on the Se7en. Shouldn't this be in Small Talk or one of it's child boards?

Welcome to the Forum

SSE works perfectly in Windows 7. It has been mentioned in the System Requirements.

SS 2008 did have some problems with Windows 7, but there is 'work around' that makes it perform equally well as in Windows XP.

You can overwrite the questviewer.exe file of SS08 by the one of SSE.

No, I mean copying the questviewer.exe of SSE copying to the SS08 folder and overwriting the questviewer.exe of SS08. SS08 has an older version of the questviewer.exe than SSE has.

If you have SSE installed on a Windows 7 computer you can play SS2008 by following the instructions here.

I re-installed 08 on my w7 laptop and it works fine without the need for any workaround.


Though my computer does NOT have sse or any other beta type software on it that might interfere with various libraries and whatnot.

the new way that windows is now coded on from windows xp is on a brand new NT system
this system can run software back from 1995 operating systems.
and also compactability has been improved on windows 7 so sse will run on xp (if your computer up to speck) windows vista (same) windows 7 ( most pc are up to the standerd of sse BUT CHECK ) and possibly windows 8 when that is realeced

I am surprised that you have no problems with SS2008 on your machine. The problem which does arise is when trying to play SOME of the missions & custom missions. They just refuse to play. A message comes up saying "Questviewer has stopped working."

Works fine for me. Not had a single problem- are you sure it can't be down to some sort of conflict with sse if it's also installed?

I must admit to not having played all the missions- mostly the same few over and again. Any specific ones that cause problems and I shall go and have a look...

Nothing connected with SSE Stuart. Unfortunately one only finds the problem by trial and error. Everything seems fine until bang- "Questviewer has stopped working". Trying to make Windows 7 compatible with XP doesn't work, I tried that a lot of times. The more up to date questviewer.exe does really fix it. Without that I understand it is not possible to use the multiplayer either. Mind you I have not tried that as I am not especially interested in it. Sorry I could not give a specific mission for you to try, possibly one with lots of ships and waypoints, but then you wouldn't be able to check that as you would first get the dreaded message.

P.S. If you overwrite the first file below with the second one it solves the problem. The SS2008 file looks like a face, & the SSE file looks like a green triangle on a black background. The picture of my desktop shows what the two files look like.

In any case I think my XP desktop is marginally faster than my 7 laptop (only down to memory restrictions on my laptop).

Incidentally, I don't think any of my computers- desk or laptop have ever met minimum specs when the "sim" came out, but they still ran OK.

Usually I use laptops and I think they usually come below spec on at least one aspect.

I hope vstep get their act together and sort out sse- as I'm keen see it.
