hi folks,
Hope you all are fine.

I just want to know if theres any possibility to reduce the draft of big vessels when creating a new mission?
Then I can add VERMASS to SAO FRANCISCO and or ROTTERDAM inside harbour (Near downtown)

Thanks in advance.  :2thumbs:

Hello Tavares,

To the best of my knowledge, I don't think it is possible. Custom mission creators are limited to just choosing the ships in the Mission Editor and placing them in the environment.

Actually, reducing the draft of a ship is a trivial matter in the ship editor. Getting her to behave correctly at the new draft is the real fun.
Reduced-draft versions of many ships were produced by Terry’s crew for SS2008.
The questions are “why?” and “is it really a good idea?”

Hi Tavares,

To answer your original question about what you can do in the Mission Editor:
You can, indeed, make Vermaas ride higher, but that is not the same as changing her draft.
You can make her ride higher by treating her as you would in placing a bollard. After treating her as a bollard, you may find that she handles like a bollard. Well, that is a bit of an exaggeration.

You raise her by selecting her and opening her properties panel.
Click the + next to LocationReal and then click the little Up arrow for the Y coordinate until she is raised as much as you want.
Be sure to then click away from the ship to make the gizmo go away, and then reselect Vermaas in the Entities in mission panel to get the gizmo attached correctly.
You can then save the mission and try her out.

You will find that she will still run aground at Maassluis/Rozenburg even if you have her planing—because her “draft” has not changed, and that is what determines her clearance to the imaginary bottom.

Thanks Marty.

unfortunately thats does not help to reduce the draft  :'(
What do you think to give this Idea directly to the developers ??? It can give us a chance to afford many missions in different ports (Port listed into the SSE). Or given a comand DRAFT + or -

I know that if we start to go far with this request by add trim the possibility to make a draft control a real part of the SSE will get far and far from the reality, but since from the SS08 draft control is a strong request considering the geographical and tide limits with the listed ports VS ships into the SS08 till SSE.

Moreover now is the time to add this important tool which will only encrease the respected quality of this simulator.

Im near to travell to Rotterdam, and I want to visit VSTEP, as theres some plan to order a large amount of game and ship controler for a trainning room as long as they give me 5 brazilian ports into the request. This envolves costs and Im ready for that...

In advance could you discuss with the developers to add a draft control option when creating mission and also to free roaming and multiplayer. Believe-me we will see VEERMAS and LATITUDE coming very often to SAN FRANCISCO and SOUTH HAMPTON! Even Rozemburgfor repairs at the ship yard...

Best regards
Tavares

Hi Tavares,

Altering the draft, or providing a variable draft—loading—capability for ships has been discussed many times on this forum over the years, along with various technical difficulties.
Those items are on the to-do list, I’m pretty sure, and I doubt that the Devs need a reminder from me.

I do think that the depths in the various environments should be brought into line with the actual reach of ships like Vermaas and Latitude. However that requires a decision on what fixed “tide” condition is to be adopted for those ports. I doubt that you can expect to see much progress on that problem any time soon.

I understand is terrible difficult to develop a variable draft in real time for the ships en Ship Simulator. I remember too in Ship Simulator 2008, VStep designed a special version of Lattitude; with a reduced draft to use the ship in more ports. Maybe could be possible to design different versions of every merchant ships: Vermaas, Lattitude, Jumbo Javelin... with the ships unloaded, half loaded and fully loaded, for instead. At every situation of course, the performances of the rudder and the propellers would be differents. We can`t think to have a variable draft in real time, at least for now, but a first approximation to the question would be interesting.

I like very much the Agile Solution. I consider is the most versatile ship in the simulator to do the "experiment" described in the past paragraph. If VStep designed a special crane to load and unload containers, why not handle the cranes in the Agile Solution, and open or close the hatches of the cargoholds?
