ships on navigation chart
« on: January 08, 2011, 21:56:58 »

The first thing I noticed on the new patch V1.3 is that it is difficult to see my ship as I travel along the charts?, they are a light grey, the lights on bouys are good.

Hi Bill,

The ChartShip.fx file that you have downloaded has to be copied and pasted into the Effects folder of SSE

Please see screenshots below to guide you

This is the downloaded file

The path to the Effects folder

Please post again if you need further assistance.

Thanks for all your help but for some reason I am not sure of myself when I try to do things with files etc, I have always had problems with zip files and looking for certain files that pertain to the user ones.

I read your reply about copying and pasteing (spelling) that file chartship.fx and the screen shot but I do not understand this path business.

I apprerciate all your replies and the help but some times my brain has brain cramps.

Hi again Bill,

Well, if you are OK with left click, right click and double click we can see this through.

Bill, but you have figure where the downloaded ChartShip.fx file is "hiding" in your computer  ;D ;D

1) Right click on the ChartShip.fx file and you will get a menu.

2) On this menu, click on Copy. Click on "X" at the top right corner to close this screen.

3) Now double click on "My Computer"
Next click on "C" drive. You will see a number of folders. Scroll down until you spot one called "Program Files".

4) Double click on the folder Program Files.

5) You will again see numerous folders.

6) Scroll down till you spot a folder called "Vstep". (You will find it closer to the bottom of the list)

7) Double click on the folder "Vstep".

8a) You will see a folder called "ShipSimExtremes". Double click on this folder.

9) Now identify a folder called "Projects". Double click on this folder. (5th from top)

10) You will now see a single folder called "ShipSimExtremes" (yes, it has come for the second time).

11) Double click on this folder - "ShipSimExtremes"

12) Now identify a folder called "Data" and double click on it. (2nd from top)

13) Now identify the folder called "Effects" (4th from top) and double click on it.

14) In the next screen you will see only files and no folders.

15) In the same screen, right click anywhere on the white blank space.
Be careful not to right click on any of the files !!!

16) You will get a menu. In this menu identify Paste" and left click on it.

17) The file "ChartShip.fx" will get pasted in the list of the other files. 99% of the job is over !!

18) Now click on the "X" on the top right corner of the screen. You will now see the "desktop".

19) Restart your computer now. Job 100% over !!  :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

20) Open "Ship Simulator Extremes".

21) Choose a mission of your choice.

22) Look at the chart now. The grey ship icon is now black like before !!!!!

Well, Bill there you are! Hope this helped. Still got questions? Shoot another post and it will be answered.

This message is mainly addressed to Vin_sun but not only for him but any body else that might be able to answer my question.

I followed all the steps you gave me to change the colour on ships on the charts

from grey to black, all was okay until step 16 to paste the file, but I could not do it as it was shaded out?

I am still not there yet.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Bill,

I hope you have been successful with TJK's advice of using the "drag and drop" method.

I am explaining my copy and paste method pictorially for you.

Thank you all for your help and to Vin_sun who outlined all the steps to make my chart show my ship in black instead of grey, and today I guess my brain had a good night sleep because it worked finally.

It is a great help to have people like you to help with problems.

I am wondering where do you get  your computer training when it comes to Sim games?.

I did not receive any comments about my FPS running at about 6-8 ?

Thanks aagain

Make sure that you have the latest drivers for your graphics card installed.
Turn anti-alliasing off and don't set your settings on max. And if your are lucky you get a higher fps.

6-8 fps is normal.

Hi Bill,

I am pleased to learn that you can now see the "black ship" again on the chart in SSE  :2thumbs:

Not to worry ..... help is always at hand here on this Forum and there are many who are most willing to contribute. Please feel free to post however trivial the matter may be. Personally, I can help you with pictures / screenshots.

It is indeed encouraging to learn that at your age you are game to get involved with computers and sims. Keep it going !!

As for the FPS issue, yes, there has indeed been a drop in the rate after updating to version 1.3. It is very noticeable when the mission is in a harbor / port. I have personally experienced a drop from 21 FPS to 10 FPS and it improves marginally once in open waters. I am sure Vstep is looking into this matter.

As mentioned before, please do not hesitate to post again.

You're welcome Jim !

Just like I told Bill, please don't hesitate to ask for help. "Cyberphobia" is nothing to be ashamed of and should not give you a complex. If I have a solution, I will gladly give it !
