They where both there for there refits. Missfit 2 aka Highlanders was there 1st then when she get back Missfit 1 aka Blue puttees was there 2nd. Now there is talk of getting rid of the Vision ! And replacing it with this ugly thing MV Watling Street but it is just a roomer for now and I hope it says that way !! The Vision is the only good boat they have left now !

:o

They cannot seriously be considering putting the Watling Street on that service?

If you think that the 2 ex Stena ships are unsuited, then just wait until you see that up there!  I sailed on her when she was running between Barcelona and Palma de Majorca and she was a disaster then!  I still occasionally wake up with cold sweat in the night thinking of that ship and her sister the Norman Voyager.

She is also a half sister to the new Vikings on the Irish Sea.

Well that is the roomer I have heard. I hope it is just a roomer & and I don't hear any more about it. The Vision charter is not up till some time next year.

Ships are not cheap to run!

$30M on repairs is a lot of money, to give an example the annual running budget for my present ship (1300 pax, 29 years old) is 9.7M euro, I was involved in the dry docking of a 25 year old ship which went horribly wrong and ended up with the replacing of large sections of steel, the total cost of that dry dock was 27M euros.

When you look at the above figures I doubt that they have really spent 30M in repairs on two ships, that figure might be the total running cost of the 2 ships, but I don't think it is a repair cost. (unless of course the figure is in canadian dollars and the exchange rate to USD is huge.

The costs involved in running ships are enormous, the above running budget figure does not include food and drink, nor does it include fuel (presntly US$450,000 every 2 weeks)

Also on the Lake Michigan Carferry line! Water is $5.00, and no vendos or fountains. Although in the cabins there is a seperate tap for drinking water, there is no way to get a cup.
