Change your videocard first instead, you will then get better performance than if you change your cpu first, if you just play games..

Since when is CPU and GPU the same??

Although my machine is below minimum specs it plays the game remarkably well.

Sir...

While most posts concerning this topic indicate the use of "high end" PCs, your simple statement stood out on its own and it was heartening to learn that your average PC config was letting you enjoy SSE. This would have indeed been most encouraging for those with PCs like yours hesitating to buy SSE. Thanks for sharing it. :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Not all computers like Traddles's may be able to cope with the game, there are many variables..
He may be quite happy to run the game at 5 fps, with all graphics set low.. ;)

Processor - Intel 9650 Quad Core at 3.0GHz
Motherboard - ASUS Stryker Extreme
RAM - 4 GB
Graphics card - Nvidia GTX275
Power supply - 1000W CoolerMaster
HDD - 4 x 500GB SATA in two RAID-1 mirrors, C: and D: drives
Monitor - 2 LG 24" LCD panels
Windows version - Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit

So far, game plays beautifully on full graphics settings.  No crashes to date, just some gameplay bugs.

Core 2 Duo P8400 @ 2,63 GHz

4GB of ram

GeForce 9700M GT 512MB

Vista Home Premium 32 bit

Strange. I've got a more powerful processor than traddle and my game still lags even at the lowest setttings. I hope the 1.2 patch icreases the FPS

I'm afraid your graphic card is under the minimum specification - you need at least GeForce 8800 GT. Have a look at this website which list the benchmark for all makes and models of graphic cards:

http://service.futuremark.com/hardware/

Graphic cards need to score at least 6000 to have a satisfactory performance for SSE. Yours scored 1600 on the benchmark result, this would explain the 'lag' that you are experiencing, even at lowest settings.

I also noticed from your graphic card model that you're a laptop user - as already mentioned somewhere else on this forum, laptops are not renowned for playing intenstive games.

Its not a problem with XP that reads 4GB,  is related to the fact that is a 32bit OS.

My mid-range config:-

CPU:  AMD Phenom II X2 550 @ 3.1 Ghz
MoBo: ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO
RAM:  Corsair DDR 3 XMS3 CMX4GX3M2A1600CO (1333 Mhz, 1600 Mhz if overclocked)
GPU:  Sapphire Radeon  HD 5670 1GB  GDDR5
HDD:  Western Digital WD 10EARS 1TB
Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 2233 (22" TFT)
Speakers: Creative (Basic)
DVD drive:  Sony 24X DRU 880S
PSU:  Coolermaster 500W
Cabinet:  Coolermaster Elite 335
OS: Windows 7 Home Basic

SSE is performing well with this config.

Note:
I am the one who began this topic. Thanks to all those who responded to my suggestion and shared their configurations. Mine has come rather late as it was assembled yesterday (28th)

Sailing with all options to max. A quite low fps. (10 max) Even minimizing all options doesn't result in higher fps.

Hi Salty,
I have all graphics set high, NOT low. Do not ask me how I can play the game so well, I have no idea, I just can. Must be good luck and clean living. 9 to 12 FPS too, not 5. The 20FPS in top right is only when a static picture is there, not when playing the game.
