Ship "SIMULATOR"
« on: September 05, 2010, 15:33:50 »

Dear Simmers; When the depression, loaded with complains about delivery problems, bugs, slow computers, etc., has finally passed, we will be back in calm waters and will be able to see what ShipSuim Ex really is; So far I noticed only improvements for the 'racers': fance boats- fancy toys - high end scenery- all commercial stuff we are actually not waiting for, because there are much more important issues to solve;
Regrettable there is still no wind- current effect (something what had been introduced elsewhere, more than 10 years ago) and now on top of that, some genius has deleted the controls in the wheelhouse- not to speak about never fitted controls on the bridge wings! Where are the navigation beacons/light and light bouys in Hoek v Holland?
Simulation means further that a choice can be made from the standard packet of vessels; Of course there is an endless debate about which vessels to put in the game, but the developers, being Dutch (or maybe not?) should know that we presently are missing a standard cargo vessel from the sixties; The "Jumbo J" and "Agio.." are hardly standard cargo vessels; Missing also is a standard harbour tug- again I am talking about one propeller/ one rudder; Present tugs are hardly 'standard; Now also missing "Elbe" en Fury"; Can not believe the bad/arrogant answer I have seen on the forum; If the "Jumbo J" can survive, then why not these two vessels; If I remember correct, a part of the revenues went for covering the maintenance? I hear a different tune when reading answers about 'greenpeace'. Finally my old point: Printable maps, showing the harbours as they are in ShipSim- I could not find them, but have might overlooked these. I also miss a feature that we can look around with the keys instead of only the mouse.

Regrettably, the flashy power boats are probably going to sell more copies than having accurate navigation of large ocean going ships.

Sad, but true...

@above... im sorry but i allmost never see anyone in multiplayer using the racing boats...

this game got its fame for being an actual simulator, I expected a lot when i saw the flashy advertisement with REALISTIC EVERYTHING, now im just amazed by how they released a buggy cut down version of 2008 with the only new thing being some "ship dynamics" and a new wave physx engine...

Im not that happy spending this much money on this vista like release style (buggy, crappy & expensive)

I love these games, its one of my fav game series, but this disappointment is really big...
I can deal with the graphics not really being there but why cut down on the things we allready had?

I haven't bought it, and quite likely won't for a while. There is a principle at stake- vstep is taking its customers for granted and not really thinking what it's doing...

To Larsdehaan;
I knew this of course, but still thanks for the answer. Looks like this was the easy part to reply to as I didn't see any other reaction to my remaining subjects.

I might have missed the point, but both types of vessels (free- and non free) has to be -and can be- modified, right? I might assume that, if a number of persons has bought the non-free type and V-Step changes later the system, there must be a possibility to agree with the non-free makers about the conversion cost. Maybe a number of your clients bought the Extremes with the idea to use these non-free vessels? (I am one of them...) At the end of the day it was V-Steps who changed the system, so where is your responsibility ending?

I just did the "Ocean Park" mission from Hamburg to Europoort and it is really very painfull to have a panel with all kind of navigationlight switches on the bridge available, whilst in the same time no shore lights are provided on the seperation dam and the various routing bouys. It's a shame, as the quality of the game in general, has been improved. I hope that a wake-up call from the simulator brothers will arrive and that V-Step finally will realise that they are loosing their 'simulation' image.

Too bad.

I think the overall quality of the game, is lower then SS08. For example, the textures of the ocean and water in harbours are using very bad textures and look more like a blue floor with some little mountains on it.
Compare it with the water in SS08 and you see what i mean.

Compare the to screenshots, upper is from Extremes and lower from SS08.

Thats just one thing why Extremes is not a proper sequel to SS08.

Multiplayer is also full with bugs, towing another ship isnt possible because your ship turns into an airplane.
When other players join/leave screen freezez for maybe 1 or 2 seconds. If it happens once in an hour its not a big problem, but this is just annoying because it happens all the time.

Just my opinion why we should play SS08 and abandon Extremes until they fixed the bugs and multiplayer.
When the game came out, and i installed it, i felt by Vstep. They delivered again an unfinished game with lots of bugs.

Both game are on the highest settings, with every option enabled in Nvidia Control Center.

I dont see it.  IMHO it's the SS08 screenshot that has, "bad textures and look more like a blue floor with some little mountains on it".  Are you sure you are not getting them mixed up?  :)

I really love the new ocean system though. It looks really realistic that the swell fades out once you are passed the breakwaters.  :) That is sure an improvement compared to SS08

The waves during a storm look also better. When you looked in seagull view in SS08 yo could really see the parametric patern in the waves.

Yes, its improved a 1000 times, Only with no wind it looks very bad. The refractions are far more better in SS08, thats what i mean.

I just tried the same thing in SSE and indeed it seems there are no reflections on the water (apart from the sun) ..

I don't think it's meant to be as reflective as 08. Cause 08's water was way too reflective like you practically has a mirror. The waves felt restrictive, its like there is a layer of thin jelly and someone is trying to push air through it. But If you do prefer SS08 waves, I think if you look on the settings somewhere you could make the changes there to them

Hi Paulusfiret,

You mentionned lots of very different things in your message.

Some of those will be corrected with the 1.3 update, which will be released within next weekS.

About the ships choice, that's very subjective, as you mentionned it. I just don't agree with two of your statements :

1. "Agio.." are hardly standard cargo vessels : I can't see anything more standard than the Agile Solution : a single propeller multi-purpose cargo vessel , with one bow thruster.

2. Missing also is a standard harbour tug : Same as above : the Bugsier 2 is a perfect example of today's standard harbour tug. Harbour tugs with one rudder/propeller look like antiquities in modern ports.

Those are very subjective : you'd like some old fashionned ships - which is your right, but might not be every one's wish. You just shouldn't add that to a list of complaints about the game, it's a personnal opinion !

regards,

Denis

Hello Dennis,
Thanks for the reply; It seems that the coming patch will solve a number of issues. Will follow closely.

For our vessels selection opinion: Yes it's subjective. But at the other hand we had four types of tugs before (Harbour-Russian-Elbe/Furie, Bugsier 2) against now one type (Bugsier 2); This is going three steps back in time. Besides this, I would not qualify "Bugsier 2" as a 'standard type. Because with the same token I could say (having built three of them for the same Bugsier) that the rotortug is now a standard type. We should never forget where we came from: One propeller- one rudder- and no bow thruster(s). Therefore, it is simply a 'must' to have that type represented for the 'real' simulation lovers. Still don't know why the "Elbe" can not brought back to 'live'; They spend tens of thousands Euros in Maassluis to get the real one going!

For the Agio..: Yes, I agree that this is now the common type. (And when sailing, I just ignore the functional bowthruster). However, like for the tugs, there should be at least one original type of cargo vessel be included.

Anyhow, looking forward to get the update(s).
