I have a quote from Mad_Fred in another topic where someone was making note of the lack of Titanic:This is not the only time Fred said something along these lines, and I think Terry once commented, too, but I don't remember how he worded his post

I don't suppose the forum moderators could float and sticky a post saying that Titanic will return with time?

Oh great... Oh how very great indeed...

SS United States, I say, instead, maybe, how about it? No?

Bigger and faster, and she still floats. I was just looking at some footage about it today on boobtube, I mean youtube.

Clearly, Mr TFM, you are referring to THE ship. the Pride.

Well, a certain gentleman here is working on a grade A1 model... but, ahem, I think that the Pride is destined for a different destination.

Hi iv been playing sse and there is alot of new ship like coast gaurd ship  but the only thing that made me buy the 2008 one was it had TITANIC in it and now there is no titanic why

There is already another topic on this, I suggest for optimizing the forums we keep the topic onto one thread.

That wreck has taken over nearly as many threads as Marmite.
Then clearly it's popular enough to make increase customer satisfaction with game inclusion, and perhaps even increase game sales ::)

No, as it's the same FEW people making the same demand!
Because they already know about the game and have accounts ::)

And you are implying that there is a vast army of fans out there who are silently demanding that this ship is included?

Contrariwise, there is a large majority who would like various problems and deficiencies corrected before the limited resources of VSTEP are diverted to cater to the demands of a small, but vocal, minority.
Should the Titanic be given priority over the needs of that majority, they are likely to become very angry.

The argument that including Titanic in SSE would increase sales is not a rational one. That ship is available in the less expensive SS2008 that runs better, for that limited purpose, than SSE does.
It is unlikely that anyone would buy SSE just to get Titanic. Most of those who want Titanic already own SSE, so the potential for additional sales is small.

Marty, would you not agree that a good commercial route would be for vstep to license selected partners to make, distribute and sell add ons? A form of franchising?

I realise they want to keep ultimate control but I fear that (as much as I'm loathe to admit it) RMS-G has a point... Not just about that one dull ship, but all of us have something we'd like to see in it- but vstep would never be able to fulfill all these requests even IF it saw the business model to support it.

They are missing a trick. ss is good- but it COULD be great.

Hi Stu,

You might have a valid point, under the right conditions:
Is SSE expected to be a profit center? Or is it not expected to even recoup development costs? If the latter, why allow others to profit from SSE while VSTEP does not?

What would be the development costs for VSTEP to polish the tools that would allow a third party to fully integrate a ship into the game?

How many people would be willing to make the sizable investment in the development tools—probably Q3D—for an uncertain market? And to develop for a game that may pose a moving target for some time to come?

How much proprietary information would VSTEP need to divulge? Would it then make them vulnerable to having the whole game cloned?

There are some fundamental differences between the architecture of SS and that of most other games that may make development more difficult and less attractive for third parties.
Even though Q3D/QuestViewer is a very good graphics development system for many purposes, and has served me well on some industrial contracts, QV is simply not the “lean, mean gaming machine” that runs most other games.

Fair points Marty.

I would envisage a licence including a % for vstep.

vstep should have thought about their software more carefully to begin with.

If vstep had thought this through properly then a 3rd party developer wouldn't need to invest in too many development tools. Think the add on industry for msfs!

I doubt the game could be cloned in this way- they shouldn't need to divulge all that much data (think the method vs uses)

I would agree that there are fundamental differences between the way ss works and other games. HOWEVER- as a consumer, that isn't my problem.

With my company, if I fail to do something in a commercially astute manner, I don't say to my customers "pay me anyway even if it isn't what you wanted."
