You guess is as good as mine, at this moment, I am afraid. I think you're right.

I'm not up to speed on all the various outlets to be honest, that's really not something I am kept abreast about,.. Or how/what paradox has done or how they might have subdivided certain versions. 

I reckon you should just go 'woot, I can play without an extra fuss'...

And to add to that, download versions (except when bought directly from STEAM - www.steampowered.com) do not use STEAM. So a Gamersgate version does not use STEAM, it uses - well - Gamersgate.
