If you read my previus answer one more time then you see the link
http://www.shipsim.com/products/shipsimulatorextremes
and their you alvise will find the corect answer for the spes question

I know that these were the specs when you posted. Unfortunately they have changed since - and now my anticipation has gone - and the money for the CPU too.

There is a really huge difference between a 2,4 GHz CPU and a 3 GHZ CPU.*
And
there is a really huge difference between a Geforce 6800 and a Geforce 8800GT!

So now I will forget everything about SSEx.*

EDIT July 20, 2010:
Some forum members' (especially TJK's and Riddip's) comments have made me think it over and change my mind.

Looking at "PCworld" one of the main PC shops in the UK, only 11 PCs meet the requirement for 3GHz, out of 79

I see problems with SSE...  :-\

... about 750 euro.

Less expensive than I have thought, but more than i am willing to spend for a single game.

Well I brought this PC mainly to play SS08, so I am not wanting to buy another expensive one just for SSE

I think SS EXtremes will run on my 2,6 GHz double core machine with the graphic adjustments like this in the attachement
But if that will be look nice?

Hi Aad!

If SSEx supports multithreading (which SS08 doesn't) it might work with higher adjustments too.

Yep, and that's a big IF.

well after the 1.4.o patsh the SS 08 support supports multithreading  so i think SSE will that to

Can't remember you asking us, Aad?
Parts of SSE will have multithreading, so you will have some enhanced performance.

Can you please tell me how this is activated in SS08 - or must it be activated at all? My SS08 (version 1.4.2 , build 1038) only uses one core of my dual core processor, and this core is always about 100 % busy, while the other core is about 0-3 % busy.

In this thread or post I can't see a way to activate the other core(s) - only a description of the way how multiple cores may or may not work together. Like me other authors in this thread have experienced too, that only one core is used. Maybe it depends on the operating system or the CPU itself. So I probably have to live with it - which I have managed to do done all the time ...  :-\

... and - to be honest - I do not understand very much of the Wikipedia article mentioned there  ???.

But I just notice - this is a bit off topic here in a SSEx-thread.

Looks like SSE is gonna be way out of my price range. Shame.

To be honest, what's the point of making a simulator only a lucky few can play?

Hi McGherkin and oceandream

As mentioned before, the listed 3 GHz processor is a single-core P4 processor, which is quite an old model.
Since I've realised that, I'm not very afraid anymore. A modern multi core processor should beat this one.

Of course we had to reckon that all the things that we have asked for in the last months - better harbours, better water surface, bigger environments etc. - costs more calculating power - so it is only natural, that the requirements are higher than for SS08.

But this is a usual process in every software series.
