Why Hello There

Well well well... It's been a while since my last real visit. Popping in to say hi and that I'll be coming back more often :)

(Also love the new site haha)

And as a quick question, what should I do here about my CPU? I've been having laptop troubles and I think that I overheated the CPU.



My friend says that I need to get some special things, remove the paste, clean it then repaste the chip. Is that the beat idea or should I get a new one. I use AMD CPU's

If your integrated processor came off, then good luck ever getting that computer functioning again without a new motherboard.

Well I took everything apart like I should. So it should run fine according to others who have fixed computers as long as I repair it right.

Like I said, good luck getting it to work, integrated parts aren't supposed to come off, hence the term 'integrated'. :P ;)

But who tells you that you repaired it right? Atleast a big lightflash tells you that you didn't do it right...  ;D

First you need to clean the old thermal paste off. You may use alchool and paper, but be careful. The processor should look like this (the picture if from my old graphic card):



Then, you must buy thermal paste, like Artic Silver 5, apply just a little bit, and then put the cooler on.

Here's an update. I'll be giving my laptop to my grandfather this Sunday, as he's like a computer genius lol. I'll have him look at it, but I think I might need a new processor, hopefuly an AMD Quad :p

If its a laptop CPU I won't believe that you can change the CPU to the Desktop models.

Make sure the processor is compatible with your current motherboard.

I checked and most of the AMD mobile CPU's are the same socket type anyway :P My grandfather is taking my laptop with him today also.
