Visit to the Shetland Isles - Aberdeen, Lerwick
« on: April 11, 2010, 18:17:38 »

Hi all,

Some of you might of noticed that I was away for a little while

I visited the Shetland Isles, and I have to say they really were beautiful. On my way over I was on the MV HJALTLAND, and managed to arrange a bridge visit a week earlier. I've uploaded all my photos onto my Flickr account - feel free to have a nosey! - and thanks very much to Captain John Strathearn for letting me aboard.

I was also aboard RESEARCH, a Pelagic Trawler in Lerwick. I'll be uploading my pictures of her soon :2thumbs: Thanks very much to Dave (an engineer aboard her) for allowing me on. Was absolutely brilliant!

I'll upload some pics of Shetland in general soon :)

Jack.

Seems you had a nice trip, and nice pictures btw. Yeah, the shetland islands are very nice, I was there a couple of years ago with the Norrøna, though she doesn't sail there any longer. Btw they have interesting street names, don't they? And language accent for that matter.

Yeah, the Shetland Isles are lovely. Particularly Bressay and Whalsay, I think. Unst is very nice too, though a little remote! 2 ferries to get to it!

And yeah the Acccent is nice - didn't seem to be as strong as mainland Scotland. And yes, the names are very interesting! Shetland seems to have a very big Norwegian influence. :)

I've heard your accent, and I have to say that it's less pronounced than the Scottish accent.
