What to call the New P&O New Builds?
« on: January 23, 2010, 10:43:54 »

Hi guys, what do you think P&O should call their Newbuilds? the First is almost ready for launch and is ment to be in service by september 2010. I think that they should be named after their predecesors. That is what P&O Did with the Pride of Kent and the Canterbury. I think they should be named Pride Of Dover(2) and Pride Of Calais(2). It would only be reasonalble to name a ferry after its local surrounding towns and cities like P&O have for Decades. Here are some Pictures of the NB1, that is what P&O staff call it at the moment.

Calais, there both replacing the Pride of Dover and Pride of Calais in September! What a shame, to have two great ships taken out of service in the month of my birthday.

I think they should be called either:

"UGLY 1" and "UGLY 2"

Or alternatively

"P&Os part exchange on a new build replacement for the Pride of Bilbao"

Pride of Dover/Calais (2)

As they are replacing the originals, I can't see them being anything but

Nice pics by the way - where did you find them?

I doubt P&O's target in constructing these newbuilds was to make them look pretty
Just as well

I think they should call them Pride of Dover and Pride of Calais, just like the older succesful ships...
Agreed

And here's a very interesting render....(Seafrance Rodin/Pride of Rotterdam mixed into one, anyone?)
Weird... Perhaps though we will see them being called Le Pride de Douvres et Le Pride de Calais...

Urgh, Give me the original PRIDE OF DOVER and PRIDE OF CALAIS any time.

I remember when they first entered service, they were criticised for their looks.......20 years on and their replacements are even worse looking.

I dread to imagine what newbuildings will look like in 20 year's time!

And a hint of the Ulysees with the car ramps - there is a ramp either side in the bow

To say that it is based on the 2 seachance sister vessels is a bit like saying every car is a copy of a ford mondeo.

all designers are going to come to the same conclusions from the same results of the same tests, but if you mean that pee and ooh have set out to copy seachance deliberately, I don't think so/

no, it has an ramp on the stern like the D-class maersk trio and one before the "catflap" door on the upper deck like on the maersk trio. In short run, they are designed with every successful design from the cross channel ferry market build in.

Are you looking at a real ship or that artists impression?

I have seen a different picture which does show a twin ramp to the upper deck (one either side of the Main Deck Door)

Hi Stu,
Isn’t Goingbroke in Wales?
I don’t know if you remember the big flap here in the US when Dubai Ports bought P&O.
P&O operated large terminals in many of the ports here. There was paranoia over “turning over our ports to Arabs” and, presumably, opening the doors for terrorists to bring in nukes.
Better to leave our ports in the hands of the ILU and The Mob.
DP decided it was the better part of valor to sell the US operations to others.
Regards,
Marty

Hi Stu,

;D

Yes, the DWP problem in America was well publicised here... I thought it a bit odd, since Dubai was about the most western friendly of the Emirates. And also that it would most likely continue to employ largely the same personnel- ie Americans...

That said, the countries around the world mocking America for this stance didn't have a fleet of 767s flown at their key buildings- but that really is a topic we don't want to reopen here...

Beer anyone?  ;D

now that u think bout it, the 3D artists impresion looks a lot like the official one used by P&O and STX europe. maybe they are the Same? They should have taken in my design for the new ferries. I asked them but they havnt said anyfin so I take it there not goin to use it.
